Hope you have all had a good day, I am new to NHS weight loss and posting , I have done different diets lost a couple of stones then gradually put it back on, decided now to concentrate on healthy eating to see if that can help to spur me on. Any support will gratefully be appreciated. I do suffer with an under active thyroid so it’s always slow going losing the weight.

Hello Fatbird and welcome to our friendly and supportive forum,
I am very pleased to see that you have made the very sensible decision to stop dieting and to concentrate on healthy eating instead. Diet's just don't work. You need to find something sustainable that you can live with for the rest of your life.
You also need to stop buying low fat and diet foods which are full of sugar. The NHS still promote the use of low fat foods, but are behind the times. A lot of research has now been done and it is proven that eating good healthy fats and being careful with the carbs is a far more successful way to go. People here follow many and varied eating plans, unfortunately there isn't one to suit all and we all have to find our own path - be open minded to trying different things.
If you are following the NHS 12 week plan please be aware that the 1400 calories is a generic number - please go to the NHS BMI Calculator to find your own personal calorie range and then start towards the highest number. You should never feel hungry

For many of us it is maintaining a loss that is difficult, and a lifetime healthy eating lifestyle is what I will try... I am loosing weight the way I intend to keep the weight off, so there will be no transition.
Evening in front of the TV = bar of chocolate / bag of crisps
Birthday = non-stop eating for three days!
You get the idea. I know that for me, I have changed a lot of what had become "normal" for me. I have also learned not to plan each trip out of the house to include food. Once upon a time, I'd have included lunch with a trip into town, coffee and cake with a visit to the garden centre.
I now plan or even prepare a meal BEFORE I go out (usually a salad) so that I know exactly what I can eat as soon as I walk into the door... and don't turn to "what I fancy" (usually high calorie carbs that don't keep you full for very long...)
Make a list of the reasons WHY you want to lose weight. Keep it somewhere safe (stuck to the inside of a kitchen cupboard door?) and look at it from time to time, especially when you are raiding the kitchen for treats!
Finally.... alcohol. In my opinion, it's "empty" calories (no nutritional benefit) plus lowers your resolve to stay away from more alcohol or foods that you shouldn't eat. Perhaps try and limit how much you consume and stick to having it only at weekends? I know this may seem that you are being "punished" for trying to lose weight, but we have to try and change a lot if we want this to work for us.
Welcome 😀 this is a great place to be. Do pop in regularly. I use this site to support my lifestyle change. I like you have dieted and then put it back on. This takes longer, but I’m finding I can still enjoy a little bit of what I fancy which makes me feel more in control. My one top tip to start is to look at portion sizes.....good luck.
Hi FB, welcome! You will find yourself some good support here and I am sure that before too long you will be losing the lbs. You mentioned under active thyroid, my hubby also has this and is on levothyroxine. It should still be possible to to lose weight despite that even if it makes it harder for you, shouldn't it? Is there any exercise you enjoy? I just walk apart from London ne dancing classes but used to like swimming too. I would like to think I will get back on a bike but last time I tried I didn't manage to get on it - balance not good. Once I have lost a stone or two I will have another try. Anyway, here's to your journey! I would love to hear how you are getting on.
