A workout in the garden..

Last year, I thoroughly enjoyed the regular thread posted by YellowRose55 and which others often contributed to - ANewMe2022 battlethebulge IndigoBlue61 Tiggerr

In preparing my Weigh In thread ready for Monday Movers tomorrow, I was reminded of just how useful gardening is in terms of earning me lots of exercise calories.

I'm not able to do a whole lot of exercise because of my disability, but many aspects of gardening are manageable with a bit of support from my husband.

I have been "urging" (he'd say "nagging") my husband to try and keep the shed a bit tidier. I think it's a man thing from conversations I've had with other women It's an ongoing battle each year. :-)

I explained he'd save me nagging (and him having to listen to it) if he just remembered the routine from last year!

Last year it was in a right state in the Spring - I couldn't event get in the door let alone find anything I wanted or needed. I got in a right grump, threw a whole load of "staff" outside of the door and made him sort it out with me. I've reminded him of this and said I don't want a repeat this year. The shed doesn't look AS bad as last year (I peeked in yesterday) but it would still be a huge trip/fall hazard for me if I wanted to go inside. He's promised he'll sort it out "sometime" - we shall see!

My theory is that just a little time sorting out the shed each time he's in there would mean come the Spring, we'd open the door and the interior would be all nice and tidy and ready for us to find things ready to plant seeds.....

Oh! A pig just flew past my window!!!

Having enjoyed a walk down the garden yesterday to see what was going on, we've both been out there today doing pruning (him) and raking leaves (me). The high winds we had have blown all the remaining oak leaves into corners and nooks and crannies, and when we had our Yew tree pruned, I am guessing a lot of the pruned branches ended up dropping into the tree (It's about 3m x 3m in size). All those pruned branches had blown out of the tree, so I've spent 3.45 hrs raking and picking up leaves and yew branches and needles.

I am absolutely exhausted, but it was very therapeutic, the weather was perfect. I'm very happy to see that I have earned 651 exercise calories and walked over 8,000 steps (I usually only earn 3,000 in a typical day).

Anyone else been out into their garden today and what did you get up to?

The picture is the garden around this time of year from a few years ago now. My mother in law had bought me a present of lots of bulbs for my birthday! But you can see the BIG oak tree (that's responsible for all the leaves), the Yew tree (top right) and our little cat Kurtis (top of the steps) who sadly is no longer with us... :-(

Ok YellowRose55 - that would be great! Didn't realise it was a formal thread - and looking back at the archives, a few members would start a thread going :-)

Sorry you've lost your cat, I hope he had a good long life and enjoyed lots of love and cuddles...

Lovely garden photograph 😊

I’ve planned a garden day tomorrow! No much shooting up yet but a good few leaves to rake!

Lovely Pineapple27 , I hope you get the shed sorted! I too spent some time today in my garden, haven't done much for years, and I'd forgotten how much I love it, but unfortunately, I also forgot that I'm not 25 anymore, and my back muscles are going to be very sore and stiff tomorrow.

Yes, I know :-( We were out in the drizzle on Sunday. I tidied up the shed :-) and husband planted up some small plants in the greenhouse.

We have seeds sprouting - sunflowers and tomatoes! But they are inside as the moment, as very young (planted 2 weeks ago).
