Saying Hi

Hello,

I'm 60+ and overweight.

had a heart attack, I have an arthritic hip and I'm totally fed up/depressed with tying to get back to a reasonable size.

Exercise is a bit tough for me so it's down to a starvation diet I think.

Giving up the Shiraz is the hardest part.....

Hi and welcome, Bobby :)

Starvation isn't the way to go and exercise would only account for about 20% of weight loss anyway. Eating and drinking sensibly and regular movement will do the trick :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the NHS BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.

To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.

Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

Hi SuffolkBobby welcome- giving up Shiraz is VERY hard. Does help though. Honestly working out your calorie allowance using the BMI calculator means it isn't as bad as it could be. Good luck

Thanks for the welcome,

Today is my first step, I can't keep track of my weekly progress as the only scales I have are the kitchen ones.

I was shocked to find my breakfast of two "dry fried" pork & apple sausages, one egg, cherry tomato, mushrooms and a slice of wholemeal bread amounted to 1054 calories though......

Wowwww that is a lot 😂 How techy are you? Lots of us use an app called my fitness pal that helps you track your calories. Ignore it's advice about calorie levels as they are too low use the BMI range instead. Don't worry about scales use a tape measure those measurements are important too 😀

The realisation that weight loss is possible without starvation or gut-busting gym workouts has made all the difference to me SuffolkBobby 😊

You certainly don't have to give up anything, but only you can decide how to "spend" your calories 😊

Have a good read through all the suggestions given above and ask if you have any questions

Really sorry to hear how you are feeling Last year I was in agony with an arthritic hip and needed to lose 2 stone for my son's wedding I couldn't do any exercise at all BUT I did it I counted calories Once the first few pounds came off that really got me motivated to carry on I also joined WWs for a few months our local council were offering 12weeks free if your BMI was over 30

You don't have to give up your Shiraz just factor it in with your daily calorie allowance

I had a hip replacement at the end of March my son got married last week and I'm now just under 2 stone lighter I also have a heart problem and losing weight has made me feel much healthier

I was where you are this time last year and I feel fantastic now so I'm wishing you all the very very best xx
