chewing gum - when i feel hungry
When I've used up my daily cals for the day and I've got a craving late at night, I sit down with 3 satsumas and slowly work my way through them. I find them tasty and taking my time peeling them and eating them 'often' leaves me feeling ok by the time I've finished.
I guess that doesn't answer your question, as my mind is still on food
Good morning happyhealthyjane
One thing I have tried to learn on my journey is the difference between 'hunger' and appetite. If I know I've had a an adequate meal and the correct calories then I know it's just a habit making me want to eat. If you try to read-train yourself eventually the habit will go and evening nibbling will be a thing of the past.
However, if you are genuinely hungry then I am firm believer in eating, but something nourishing like a milky drink and a banana.
Hope this helps
Anna
Hi happyhealthyjane , I'm similar to IndigoBlue61 . If I think it is genuine hunger keeping me awake, I'll get up and have a milky drink. I use almond milk so not too many cals. I might also have half a banana. Then, with something in my tum, I try to get back to sleep - I use a sleep mask to block out any light, and I try to focus on relaxing each part of my body in turn, starting at toes. It worked last night after I was up at 3am watching the election results! Good luck. Good sleep is so important.
Thanks, the daily low GI carb calories allowance is really helpful. The last bit, fewer meals rather than little and often, is something new to me. Any scientific evidence supporting this argument?
my diabetic nurse, says little and often and even said I should eat more often, hence am now over weight. Thank you for putting it in black and white. I did feel better and weigh less way I ate before
thank you for your reply but it was a bit technical for me, I just know before I was told I should eat more I weighed 3 stone less than now, I was borderline type 2 diabetic but since, all my bloods have been normal. but thank you again for the reply
I wouldn't be able to sleep if I was physically hungry. Timing of my evening meal varies because of work shifts and evening activities like my Aqua and Pilates classes. I save enough calories for an evening snacK if I think I will need one. Porridge seems to work really well.
Thank you for all your replies, a lot of good suggestions here. "Concerned"'s reply is an eye opener to me. Not I didn't know anything about low GI food, but you went to a totally different level of details.
