Last pic of the series, a combo this time, dinner is delivered at 6 PM, along with a box for the guys on night shift for a midnight munch. The midnight 'snack' today is 2 squares of veggie/margarita pizza, 2 spring rolls and a doughnut. My pick is the pizza slices, my kryptonite....piiiiiizzzzzza! Left the spring rolls and doughnut.
For refreshments we have the usual can o pop, and a mini bottle of Laban (a sort of curdled milk thing that I can't stand anyway.) Both left in favor of water.
In the pots are saloma, a vegetable curry/soup, beef stew, lentil soup and a pudding of unknown origin. The pudding and saloma are left behind, the beef stew prodded and poked for a couple of choice bits (lots of fat on the meat, chunks of it!) and the soup is eaten.
Salad plate goes down the hatch, again no dressings, just a lemon slice to squeeze over it, not my favorite one with the corn option but there you go,
Main dish is fried chicken, a mince kofta type bit of mince, more corn and rice. Hidden within the rice are some chunks of boiled potato. Off this plate the kofta and chicken minus the skin/batter. I'd had enough of the corn from the salad plate so couldn't face another round.
And that's my day, there's a few variations, on Fridays we have a chicken Biriyani which is pretty tasty, but most days (read that as every day) chicken is the staple meat.

you get loads on that tray, is it all meant to be just for you? think you are doing really well resisting the majority of it as know what shifts can be like for making you hungry. I make my own, so when its gone, its gone. no extras to pick up round here either. Have you not got a suggestions box for food then? do you get to be active on shift? We mostly just have to sit in the office but brought in the hula hoop to give it a shot the other night, was alright. sorry asking lots of questions
Yeah LouTrev, there is a lot, it's part of the problem with me putting on excess weight. I'm active but it's not strenuous, I'm trying to set aside some time just for exercise 4 or 5 times a week.
The catering guys have to account for lots of different tastes due to all the nationalities that are here, trying to keep everyone happy means massive portions. I'm doing well picking out what I need now, rather than before when I would eat too much because it was in front of me.
Preparing my own food just isn't an option, I'm here 24/7 for 35 days, we live and work at the remote camp, currently we are about 70 kms from the nearest shop, a 2 1/2 hour round trip due to road conditions.
There's more, right behind me in the office (which is shared) is a fridge that is full of water and cans of pop, a box of various chocolate bars (Mars, Snicker, Bounty, KitKat and Galaxy bars normally), next to that is the coffee/tea table which currently has 5 boxes of digestives (chocolate and plain mix) 2 packets of choco bourbons, 2 packets of butter biscuits, 2 boxes of dates and 5 packets of Lays crisps in various flavors. I'm doing well resisting so far, but can't get rid of it to remove temptation as the office is shared, gotta tough it out!
On th plus side we get a fruit parcel every day, usually a red and green apple, a kiwi, an orange, a plum, a pear and some grapes. That has been my snack attack go to since starting the plan.
I think you are doing incredibly well to resist eating more of that! I'm not sure I would be so strong in the face of a big plate of food! Not to mention the snacks.
Thanks lismcl, but you must be doing something right to get that 1 stone badge eh, well done you.
I see it more of a mental attitude adjustment, at home there is a treat drawer, I have a 10 yr old and a wife, there is always chocolate in the house. Eating healthily is all about choices though, I'm realizing I can choose to leave some food on the plate at work, it ain't a clean plate competition, I don't need those extra calories and fat.
It's tough though, because of my size, quite tall, broad, I was always the one egged on to have the 'last sausage' or 'last bit of beef' in my younger years from family and friends. 'You're not going to leave that Steve, it'll only go in the bin', no problem, gone, all eat up. That wasn't so bad when I was active as anything at work and play, but that same attitude carrying on when I am slower, older, behind a desk rather than on my feet grafting. The balance tipped, and now I am a 'big bugger' in a way I don't want to be.
I can change it back, just take a while and some willpower, and a little help from my buddies on here maybe.
I've stalled a bit recently, but I'm getting close to 2 stone, so I need to keep going!
I live with a chocaholic and a skinny 5 year old, so I have learnt over the years to ignore the cupboard, but big meals and portion sizes have always been my problem (and cheese). I'm starting to realise that I will always have to watch what I eat, as I'm short and not getting any younger, so it's shifting the mindset from diet to this is just how I eat now.
That's it, that's what's dawning on me, the healthy lifestyle rather than losing some weight, then going back to old habits and putting it back on again.
Had to laugh at you mentioning cheese, me too, my wife was giving me grief yesterday on a call saying I had left loads of cheese in the fridge. Had to remind her we'd had a dinner party a few days before I left and we'd bought it for a cheese board that nobody ate!
