My lifestyle change is nearing the end of wk14. It was never my intention to effect my propensity to drink alcohol but I stopped hard alcohol 11 weeks ago and completely gave up nearly 8 weeks ago.
I haven't been to a pub since Jan 1, except for lunch with the parents.
Tonight our local reopens after a 3 month refurb and its opening to villagers only which means probably 'everyone' will be there. Champagne and food being laid on. Several friends are coming to ours first, which is pretty much par for the course.
We shall see what happens

After so long on the wagon, Tiggerr, you'll be a very cheap round! Even if you succumb to a glass, or two of champagne, that's probably all you'll manage before falling asleep!
Have a lovely time and don't worry about it, you'll be fine!
Thanks Chuckyegg. I did enjoy it, even though I spent most of the time explaining why I looked thinner and then explaining that I don't drink anymore (everyone that knows me are taking that one with a pinch of salt *shrugs*). All a bit repetitive.
I bet you'll find your tolerance has come waaay down! As part of my diet I purposely cut right back on the booze - only allowing myself one glass of wine on a Fri/Sat max. Then went to the pub earlier this week and had a pint of strong lager and felt really tipsy off it! Used to be able to down 5 or 6 and not feel that way! So enjoy being a cheap round! π
Thanks BDB (still a great name). Stuck to diet coke, so may never know that tipsy feeling again. I'm still not missing it though, which is the strangest part of it all.
Hi Katmt. I stuck to the second option, so am patting myself on the back right now. Its really the only option as anything else is almost definitely a return to a long slippery road.
Even got some short term work that may become long term. Not that surprising... the surprising thing is that I remember
Thanks Gemini, it was good to meet up with everyone again. It did get a bit tedious explaining my weight loss to each person and then explain why I wasn't drinking but that it will stop once people get used to it.
Thanks elliebath. I'm not really in a position to start again and managed to stay away from any. Its good really because I've now stuck a very public mark in the ground. If I have a drink now I'd probably have to move to another country in order to save face
Enjoy yourself whatever you decide to do Tiggerr you have had a cracking 14 weeks. Don't drink if you don't want to but enjoy all the fun and socialising. I suspect a glass of champagne would be lovely, it is certainly one of my weaknesses, or it was I now find it very sweet.
Thanks Ceals. On my first day here I said that this was going to be a change of lifestyle. I only thought I was talking about food and maybe some exercise. As it turns out, so much of what we do is interlinked and interdependent (why wouldn't it be?).
I think that if I knew I'd 'have' to give up alcohol in order to lose weight (take control of my life) I may never have started. Fortunately it was just an option that sneaked up on me when I wasn't looking
Have a good day, looks like its going to be amazing again.
BTW.. I would have historically been awake at this time regardless of how much I'd drunk the night before. The difference now is that I'm not lethargic and am off right now to walk the dogs then start planting seeds and plants in yesterday's rotovated veggie patches.
Not boring but fantastic Tiggerr I also sowed beetroot, swede, turnip, parsnip and Kohl rabi yesterday. AND, I got so excited because I spotted my first set bean pod on my broad beans that were planted before Christmas.
I think lifestyle change is the only way it can be, and I do agree with you things happen gradually. Isn't it great.
That's brilliant news on the veggie front you're going really well. The veg patches here are finally ready to start sowing (spent the morning shovelling soil that had been rotovated onto the grass) and as I've spent 3 days in a row now, mowing, rotovating plus other garden tasks, I'm kanookered and I'm just going to light the bbq and then lay back in the sun.
Yes, it would have been too painful to change everything that I've done on day one. My body and brain would have rebelled after a few days/weeks. It is great, have a good rest of the weekend.
Tiggerr I hope you enjoyed your evening. It sounds as though you live in a lovely village where all your neighbours get on well. It reminds me of a beautiful Dorset village I lived in as a child.
I have just seen your recent reply to Ceals, so I can see you still have that bounce in your step this morning and your day sounds far from boring, it sounds wonderful to me. Enjoy. π₯π½
Managed to stay completely off. Don't want to go back to my old ways now, after putting in so much effort.
A nice little phrase that I've come across on this site is "if you always do what you've always done then you'll always get what you've always got". I keep that in mind as much as possible nowadays.
That's great Tiggerr . You've really made a life style change and, although it was boring for you to have to keep saying the same thing all evening, now that everyone knows what you're doing you won't have to re-explain. I bet there'll be a few sore headed people today who'll want to follow your example!
Yep, including my partner. She stayed out to the bitter end so this morning I've prepped all the veg, boned the lamb and marinated it, ready for the bbq. At least I was in a position to do it.
