Hi and welcome, RKJW :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Take a look at the 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.

We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

Hi, you've definitely come to the right place, help, encouragement, tips and support are on offer most of the day and night,

This forum is amazing, it's the first time I'm actually losing weight, enjoying the journey and even exercising, join in as much as you like, personally I find being involved helps,

Good luck

It's really helpful to have a plan to follow and it's great how supportive everyone is on here. Go for it!

Welcome to the forum I found my motivation was to write down all the good things about losing weight and all the bad about being overweight and keep reading it

A food diary is really important

My goal is my son's wedding in July so there is a picture of the venue on the notice board in my kitchen and it spurs me on I've lost 1st 4lbs now as no way do I want to look big in the wedding photos

A photo of you that you think you look big in too that's always a bit of a wake up call

I hope that helps and good luck if I can do it (Mrs No Willpower) then anyone can 😉

Great tips. Finding your own motivation and holding onto it is really what it is all about.

You are right. Motivation is so important to weight loss. You have to identify your dreams. Make it clear to yourself what you are trying to achieve.

We are not losing weight for the same reasons. Most of us want to be slim and fit, but why? What is in it for you? What will life be like when you are slim and fit? What can you do that you can't do now? And how will it make you feel?

Perhaps it will get you off your diabetes medication? Perhaps it will make it easier for you to get pregnant? Perhaps it will allow you to live longer and see your grandchildren grow up? Perhaps it will make you a better runner? Perhaps it will make you look stunning on your wedding day? Perhaps it will allow you to climb a mountain?

Put your personal motivation into writing and make sure you look at it every day. I'm sure it will keep you motivated, it really helped me stop stuffing my face with things that were not good for me.

Hi RKJW and welcome! I've only been here a couple of days (although I'm 2 weeks into my weight loss plan) and everyone is so welcoming and helpful you're sure to feel right at home😃

Yesterday I posted a thread about motivation after my own personal struggles getting started and staying on plan- I'm not sure how to put a link here but if you click on my name you'll see my recent posts about motivation and what worked (and still is working) for me. Ibencopenhagen made some excellent points above and I personally recommend the "100 days challenge" website where you can download lots of free motivation building tools Inc a daily journal/workbook which I find really useful. One of the biggest motivators for me was listing "what my life would be like and how I would feel if I didn't lose weight" and also a list of the negative stuff I experienced due to my size- from avoiding certain people/events, to feeling depressed and negative health conditions. When I did this and read it in black and white , my motivation to get out of pain and into happiness went through the roof! I hope you find your catalyst for change- the world is your oyster😃😃😃
