Hi and welcome, 1947
If you've tried many different diets and they haven't been interesting enough to stay on, maybe it's time to find a healthy lifestyle, that's sustainable?
Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news
Take a look at the 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate
We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too
It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey
19471946 try to forget about dieting, choose healthy eating, reduce your portion sizes, cut out processed foods and drink lots of water
However, and I hope this statement will not offend, I find it sad that you don't value yourself enough to give yourself time to count calories. I use an app for this and the more you do it the less time it takes
However you choose to do it I wish you luck
I agree with @annde .....Why not count calories? It works! Imo until we count calories for a while we have no idea about the hidden calories in foods, nor what is deemed to be normal portion size.
An app like myfitnesspal makes calorie counting easy and quick. It lets you plan meals, recipes or simply check regular items. Its also vital to know what our calorie needs are , and review this as we get older and/or slimmer, because the less you weigh the less food you need.
I don't just preach, I speak from successful experience. Im 64, lost 34 pounds, now a very healthy BMI and kept it off for two years BY CALORIE COUNTING 😁
I also use myfitness pal and find it invaluable.
Using that and keeping a check not only on Calories but all the macro and micro nutrients ensure I eat a healthy and well balanced diet
Yes thats a good point and Im starting to use it more fully as well to curb my cholestrol . Well done to you.
Hi there. I would agree if your having to count everything but there are many meals that are counted for you including the NHS plan, so all you have to do is count anything extra. I have three NHS plan meals per day which are all calorie counted for you and the plan leaves me with around 280Kc spare to which I use for extras like drinks. There are a fair few websites with already calorie counted meals on taking some of that tedious work away. I have tried many eating plans were calories are not counted so food options are usually restricted which ultimately was my failure. If you decide to give this plan a go, give me a shout and I'd be more than willing to help you find calories counted meals. All the Best.
Regarding counting calories you might want to have a look at the IIFYM search term.
Additionally you might like to read some of Lyle Macdonald's writings on flexible dieting (free online). This suggests two approaches: calorie cycling and periodic diet breaks.
In my mind the distinction between calorie planning and calorie counting is significant. I will sit there in the evening and plan what I'm going to eat during the rest of the week, adjusting portion sizes and ingredients to trade off between what satiety and the things I care about eating. You can reach some quite interesting extremes: "mmm, egg whites, cod, spinach and loads and loads of chocolate"
