first time to try a diet on my own without an endocrinologist involved!!. not easyyyyy!!!.

Blimeyyyy!!!. It is going to be a challenge!!!

the only diet I followed before was with dieting pills that ended up playing up nastily with my body.

Now, I have needed this five days only to come to my senses and discover that I have been on a 2200-2400 calorie daily intake pattern and trying only to rein my habit and the sudden urges of my brains to stuff myself is not easy!!!!.

every day I have tried to be good and lower calories I have ended up with an unbeatable urge to gulp pate or chocolate urgently in the evening!!!

I am not used to feel this urges and less even fight them at all!!.

I am not a strong willed person, but I am neither used to the fact of feeling slightly hungry or not quite filled yet when I actually finish my meal (as I don't usually stop until I feeling bloated or really full).

I am not used to my body reaction to calorie deprivation, and not used to having to fight it!!!.

whenever I have lost weight, it has been a natural consequence of excess of stress and a physically demanding job and I have not been conscious of my weight fluctuations or my body reactions. I have always gone along with my body... always fatty since I can remember...

The only diet I followed, 30 years ago, was with an endocrinologist and the pills took the cravings away, so now I am basically astonished of how little will power I have!!!.

I think It will take me longer that I expected to achieve my goals, but also this difficulty is just making me even more determined to go on, as I feel it is somehow stupid that I let something as my uncontrolled lifestyle take control of my mind and body and prevent me from feeling light, healthy and in control.

Well, I think I should save this peace of mumble for later when I come to a low point and feel like giving up!.

I fear I am not going to be very helpful to anybody in the forum anytime soon as I have quite a big will power issue to sort yet with myself, but I hope you all forgive me for not having much experience yet.

Good Afternoon Sole,

Believe you me, it's easier than it looks! I set out 15 months ago with a total of 14st to lose. I'm here now, 9st lighter. Despite losing weight, it wasn't really until Christmas last year that I realised that I could do it and the weight I had lost to that point was all down to ME and nobody else!! :)

Please stick with it - we'll all be here every step of the way. Anytime you feel down or that you can't do it, post! Someone will be here to offer you support and advice :)

It can be hard in the first couple of weeks. Do you think you have your calories at the right level? Have you checked the BMI calculator. Maybe you need to eat at the higher end until you feel more used to it. I think with the cravings it can help to have all your meals and snacks planned for the day. Perhaps knowing what and when you will be eating would help you psychologically and help you keep to your calories

You can do it. Make sure you are eating enough calories using BMI calculator perhaps?

I also get urges to eat in the evening, and at night. Its hard work but we are getting healthier with every pound we lose.

There are a few tricks to make your calories and meals go further 😊 More veg for instance. Eating slowly also helps, and focus on enjoying your food. drinking plenty of water throughout the day, (or fruit tea) and having sufficient protein helps you feel satiated too, 😊 You will adjust, and get used to eating less 😊

Hi, you're not the only one with a willpower issue! Like Oscar Wilde, I can resist everything except temptation!

I wonder if maybe you need to change your routine? Perhaps your current everyday routine is prompting you to eat when you shouldn't. If you can change your routine so that some of the prompts don't happen it can help you to avoid at least some of the temptation.

Eg, I find that when I flop down on the settee in the evening, it triggers the desire for a glass of wine or a cheese sandwich, even though I've eaten my dinner and am not physically hungry. So I avoid flopping down as long as I can - do the ironing, wash and dry up, phone someone, go on this blog etc. anything to avoid the trigger for "I deserve a treat". Even, when its an emergency, go to bed early with a good book!

The other thing you can try is making sure that your lunch and dinner contain plenty of low cal vegetables. They really fill you up, are good for you, and contain hardly any calories. It does help to avoid eating tempting foods if you atleast feel full up.
