With or without my leg?

I'm a left below knee amputee and I don't know if I should be using my weight with or without my prosthetic leg when I calculate BMI and what if any changes I need to make to the plan.

Hi Damian,

I am no expert on your situation, but if I read this site clincalc.com/kinetics/ebwl.... correctly, you should deduct 3.5 percent from the ideal weight for a person your weight , height and age to know your ideal weight without the prosthetic leg.

This site livestrong.com/article/5055... explains how to calculate adjusted calorie needs.

Hope these pages help a bit. And welcome to the Weight Loss NHS forum. It’s great that you’ve joined.

Take a look at the Pinned Posts section, to the right of your screen (bottom, if you're using a mobile) and have a look at the Welcome Newbies thread.

Look at the Topics section beneath that, for posts that could answer any questions you may have. Consider joining any, or all, of our challenges, as they're fun and motivating.

Join us for the Monday Group weigh-in. If you follow Zest and moreless (our very approachable site volunteer-admins), you'll be notified when they post the threads. The latest weigh-in thread can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page.

Be active on the forum, as that's where we exchange ideas and get our daily dose of motivation and inspiration.

Enjoy the forum, and wishing you success with your goals.

using the livestrong equations I get 2845.39 kcal. I'm 47, male, 1.79 m, 84 kg. When I used the BMI calculator before my original post I got a 2000 to 2600. I'm getting my brain in a knot.

Hello and welcome DamianMac 😊

I would go for the middle, 2700 calories, and see how you go 😊 You can always reduce later if the weight doesn't budge 😊

Are you exercising at all? The challenges are good because you compete against yourself so even my quite feeble KMs are encouraging 😊

Good luck!

That makes a lot of sense. I do a fair amount of cycling. Not as much as I would like.

If you cycle a fair bit it's important to eat enough or it will be counter-productive 😊
