Watching Lose Weight for Love

20secs intense exercise 10secs rest burns more calories than slow and steady, apparently.

I want to look more closely at my exercise routine. Exhausted after 4hrs gardening yesterday I couldn't manage anything today.

Swimming is too pricey for every day.

What do other people do?

Hi bongo4 😀 I'm not a big fan of exercise and also having a busy life I struggle to fit it in but have really enjoyed Davina's 5wk fit dvd. It's basically high intensity work outs. They are only 7 mins long with an optional extra 3 mins. With warm up and cool down it takes me no more than 30 mins. Really gets my heart rate up, sweaty and puffed out. It's defiantly worked 😀 I'm more toned and have lost weight quite quickly. I only manage it every other night but actually look forward to it. Good luck. Claire x

Hi Bongo4,

The NHS actually has a selection of workouts you can find online nhs.uk/Livewell/loseweight/...

they are fairly short but good to get a bit of a sweat on, can do a few in a row if you need a little more of a workout.

Other than this the couch to 5k is free and easy enough to fit into your day :) all you need is running shoes.

Kind Regards and good luck

Turn your normal daily activities into fat-burning exercise; pop up and down the stairs one or two more tlmes than usual, vacuum clean carpets with energy, dance with your duster, jog with the dog, bend your knees to pick the weeds....and then find interesting things to do other than sitting with food for comfort, which is a habit we can all fall into.

As a distraction, try adult colouring, knitting, painting, chatting online as we are doing now (can become quite addictive)....your gardening is excellent exercise but pace yourself so you can do a little every day without ending up with sore muscles! Use your sit-down time to plan some healthy meals and to keep track of calories eaten and drunk.

Hope you have a good loss next weigh in!

Hi Bongo4. I am a big fan of Davina fitness dvd's too. I have quite a few of them and the latest one I have is the 7minutefit. Its great as you can do as many or as few of the 7 minute chunks as you want. I am also a fan of going up and down the stairs. So I try each time I go up the stairs (unless I am in a hurry of course) to go up and down 10 times - it doesn't take long but boy do you know you have done a short burst of exercise. Hope that helps :)

Thanks every-one!

I get a bit worried about a knee that sometimes hurts if I run too much, even with proper shoes, which started years ago with too many squats!

I think I'll just carry on with the adapted Pilates thing I do each day, and just generally walk everywhere and keep the gardening and cleaning up to date on a daily basis. This is meant to be a permanent lifestyle change after all.

Yesterday's unexpected tiredness after gardening has turned out to be the start of an illness, but the nice thing is I got into a pair of trousers that looked ridiculously tight until I actually got them on!
