Hi Juniper305,
Sorry to hear you're feeling confused and also as if your motivation is slowly going out of the window. It can be frustrating to get difference advice re: calories, but actually it does vary depending on what system you use. I would imagine at the gym they are working with you, and have reasons for giving you the 1787 calorie recommendation alongside your work-out plan etc.
This is the Weight Loss NHS community forum, and so many of us are following the NHS 12 week plan, and therefore the BMI calculator is a great resource - and I have to say that eating the larger amount of calories has worked for me - the BMI calculator does take into account factors such as your height, weight, activity levels etc. You could also try to see what range of calories an app like Myfitnesspal gives you - as a comparison?
You mentioned that you've been trying to lose weight for the past few months, despite eating healthily, controlling your portions and going to the gym regularly. Within this community forum, we can only give you our own viewpoints on what has worked for us - so maybe have a read through our Welcome Newbie post:

I would also recommend looking at the NHS 12 week plan, incase you think that might be a useful approach for you.
Good luck with your goals.

That is strange, you should have lost some weight. Have you had a recent medical check up to make sure everything is working as it should be?
If you look at MFP as well as NHS and the gym then maybe take the average? As far as I know the only way to lose weight is eat less calories than you consume. However, exercise can help you burn fat, build muscles, and tone, in other words trim inches 😊 If you haven't gained then you are obviously eating correctly, maybe just a small tweak in you overall calorie consumption may be needed?
Good luck 😊
You ignore whatever anyone says. You write down what you are eating and subtract at least 25% for a slow loss. We are all different
Have you looked at what your Resting Metabolic Rate, (RMR), is? There are calculators on the internet. For my age height and weight it tells me mine is 1800 calories a day so if I want to lose weight I have to be in calorie deficit so I average around 1400 - 1600 a day and I have been losing over two pounds a week. The BMI calculator would normally give you a range. I found the range they gave for me was too high so I just found what level worked for me and have stuck to that. Also, as you lose weight this daily allowance will decrease.
Maybe try eating less each day for a week and see how it goes?
