hypnotherapy yes/no

I am an overweight, ugly, worthless, obese male who's desperate to lose weight or I fear losing my marriage. I am desperate to try anything. I do exercise and try to cut right back on food.

Don't be hard on yourself. Have you read the nhs 12 week plan?

Thus us a very friendly site. All of us know how hard it is. You coukd try the plan with the support of the forum and things might start to feel a bit better.

I used to use a book and hypnotherapy CD by Susan Hepburn, called Hypnodiet. It was amazing - completely changed my eating habits to this day (4 years on). If you're interested in hypnotherapy, it's worth giving it a go.

I know paul mckenna has 2 books, 'I can make you thin' and 'hypnotic gastric band', which I know other people have used.

I found it difficult to follow Susan Hepburn because i entered final year at uni, and I didn't have time to listen to her disc anymore, but I still recommend it to anyone!

Please dont be so hard on yourself, no-one is worthless. Ive just started the 12 week nhs diet, why not try together? I try and eat protein rich foods with every meal and i havent felt hungry yet! We can support each other 😊

Please don't put yourself down. I'm sure you're a wonderful human being.

As much as you must love your wife, you need to lose weight for yourself or its all for nothing.

It might be helpful to record your eating habits for a few days and then analyse the results. You could also try identifying any triggers such as stress, upset and happiness.

When you know where you're going wrong it's easier to set a plan to change.

I note you have a sedentary job (as do I!). I'm making the effort to walk to the high street at lunchtime and down the stairs to other floors (I haven't braved walking up the stairs yet!).

Another tip is to get a pedometer. I have a Garmin watch to track my steps and it's very motivational.

Best of luck

I have a sedentary job too, so I go for a quick walk at lunch. If it's raining, I might just walk up and down the main stairs a couple of times. I'm considering using a toilet on a different floor too, and i send things to the further away printer. One other idea I heard of is to do some squats (uou could totally read this the wtong way!!) or jumping jacks when you go to the toilet, as it's a way to build in a quick burst of exercise.

Most phones have the ability to have a free pedometer app installed.

Hi Robino,

I'm so sorry you're feeling so desperate. You need to take control and get some perspective on your life. You're not in an impossible, or hopeless situation. Read the information on this link and pay particular attention to the success stories. If we can do it, so can you :)

healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Keep reading and replying to posts. If you get involved, you won't feel so alone.

All the best :)

Hi Robino,

Can't say anymore than has been said except, if you are eating right and exercising but not losing then is there something physical going on ?? Maybe you need to see your GP just to check it out.

Give yourself a good go to make a change in your life. Any small change leads to more, honest!! You are worth it 😃

Keep in touch even if it takes a few weeks to make an actual change

😇

What harsh words you use for yourself!! I'm sure your wife doesn't see you that way. :(

It IS important to feel good about YOURSELF though. So if you want to give hypnotherapy a try, go for it!!!

Does your wife know how you feel? Maybe talking to her might help. We all need a hug and some reassurance sometimes.

And you have a wife to do it with!!!

(I have a dog!!)

Good luck. :)

Hi, Firstly no one is worthless. You must have many good things going for you. As for your marriage, my mother used to say "If they don't like you fat, then they won't like you thin". If you think hypnotherapy will work, give it a try, why not.

have you tried joining Slimming World or Weight Watchers. They have plans now where there are a lot of free, un-processed foods. Its not a deprivation diet. If you are significantly overweight or your weight is giving you health issues, your GP may give you a free pass to join one of those clubs. Even if you go for a short time you are bound go pick up some hints and tips. You are worth it and there is no better time than NOW.

No, no, no!! You are NOT worthless! And I'm fairly sure you're not ugly either. Being overweight doesn't mean you are worthless. I don't know what to suggest you try because I don't know what works for you. For me it's being told I am pre-diabetic - so it's meant that I have no choice. Maybe an organised group? Why not start with the 12 week plan on here? It can't do any harm. And this website certainly shows you are not alone with your weight problems. So keep signing in because not being alone is very reassuring I think. Perhaps thinking of it as not 'simply' losing weight (yes, I know, losing weight is never simple!) but as changing your life. Day by day, little by little. lots of love and good wishes for you.
