A day of (unexpected) highs and (expected) lows .........

First day back at slimming world after 2.5 weeks of eating, drinking and being merry leading to a shocking but not undeserved half a stone gain!!. Was it worth it? On reflection, no not really - but hey ho lets draw a line under it and plod on.....

Home from class and spicy butternut squash soup made for this week's lunches as I am back to work tomorrow (boo!) - but this also means back to a

routine (yay!) I need to get back after being on leave since 18th Dec.

I have then totally surprised myself by venturing out in the rain and attempting the couch to 5k first run!! I say attempt as the pod cast kept freezing and so i kind of did my own thing to music instead for about 20- 25 minutes when i could have quite easily turned round and gone home. I didnt

go mad but at least I did something!

Having never jogged in my whole life I feel slightly euphoric and even took the poor umexpecting dog for a walk afterwards!! Just hope I can move tomorrow, I have suffered with plantar fasciititis in the past but still gave it a go and certainly feel better for it at this moment in time.

Have a good week everyone xx

Forget about Christmas eating ....it's done now and the main thing is that you had a lovely time!

Soup sounds amazing. I do find being back in a routine helps and you can't just go to the cupboards if you are bored! I used to leave my money at home so I couldn't buy any extras too!

Congratulations on the running front! Especially in the rain... that's amazing. You must be so proud of yourself. Just thinks those aches and pains will disappear in a few hours, but those pounds are going to stay off for good :)

Keep it up!

Hi Stephb thanks for your comments. Just woke up for work and still have my legs and feet intact, so I have survived the run and kind of excited about doing the next!

Yep the soup is lovely and comforting-basically I boil the squash with onion, potato and garlic in a little veg stock and add spices along the way blitzing in food processor once all softened which takes about 20 minutes. For me it does about 3 servings but you can double up the ingredients and freeze if needed.

Hi libbydaniels- yep I have done SW on and off for the last 20 years and when I stick to it it really works. I literally go and get weighed so pay for nothing really but I cant do it without the discipline of standing on the scales in front of someone! Good luck to you too x

Oh I couldn't manage without staying to class. Its been really hard over Xmas as although we had meetings on Xmas and new years eve, they were just straight weigh ins , with no proper class. I think were really lucky in our leader Nathan, who is so inspiring he makes each class worthwhile. You know how some people just seem to get it to you ? I come out of meetings feeling almost evangellistically moved - good job he is promoting weight loss and not something sinister like KKK - I can see me cutting holes in a sheet already 😃

Long may it continue !! X

With your current energy levels, I think the dog may need counselling - and possibly physio - by the end of the week! Have fun!

Well done, MB. The important thing is to get right back out there and into the food re-education fray!

And fantastic news about starting the C25K. It is a excellent programme and builds you up quite quickly to doing things you never dreamed you could, with all the resultant feelings of achievement and self-worth that generates as well as the huge input into your general health and fitness. I downloaded the mp3s rather than the podcast, and used an mp3 player rather than a smartphone which seems to have worked without glitches for me. You are stuck with the programme's choice of music which seems to distress some people terribly, but I just use it as a background beat to move to, and it's really not that bad. As you continue don't forget to include your cooldown walk and perhaps add in some basic stretches to help your muscles cope.

You have really started this year with a bounce in your step - this year is going to be great!

Aww thankyou. I hope it will continue - correction this WILL continue! I have my sisters wedding in 10 weeks so thats my motivation. Thanks for the advice re mp3 I will have to look into that as an alternative.

I wasnt sure if it was a moment of madness or genius before stepping out but can't wait til tomorrow to do it again and trying to recruit my sons to join me!
