I got one on Amazon after receiving a load of vouchers for christmas and it being on offer. At the moment I have to say the convenience of it being on my wrist and being able to look at the steps i've done or haven't done is proving to be a good motivator for me to get up and do more but it's still early days for me.
I have a Garmin Vivofit and I like it. It can be worn in the shower, tracks steps and sleep. It's simple to use and doesn't require charging all the time.
Currently the older model (the one I have) is £50 in Argos - well worth it.
Yes they do work only if you set your personal goal..
I love my Fitbit HR. It tracks steps heart rate and sleep. You can set it to track a period of exercise eg a run or bike ride. It measures calories burn, distance travelled and is also a watch with date and time. It's luminous so if I wake up in the night I can very easily check the time. It only shows time etc when you life your are so its blank and discreet the rest of the time. You can link to others and compete with them. I don't!
I have a Fitbit Charge HR and love it. It monitors my heart rate, flights of stairs climbed, steps taken, calories burned and records my sleep pattern!
I also use the fitbit app to track my weight and food intake.
If you want just to track your steps then try a ftbit from the lower end of their range, like the Zip or One fitbit.com/uk/store
