I've lost weight & put it back on my whole life, only ever being an ideal weight for about a year once. I'm very overweight & feel beat before I start again to try a lifestyle change. The mountain ahead seems just to much to contemplate, but I've got to try. Anyone feel the same
So much to lose: I've lost weight & put... - Weight Loss Support
So much to lose
Hi Debs, I know exactly how you feel. I started out being over 13 stone overweight and the mountain just seemed impossible to climb so I just didn't bother.
But then a friend of mine lost 5 stones over a period of 2 years but I still saw her having the odd treat and I thought ok, maybe I could do that too.
I set myself a felxible target of 3 stone in a year but thought that even going into the next year a stone lighter would be better than being a stone heavier - as would probably have been the case.
Since then (10 months ago) I have lost 4 stone. So it can be done
Start off making small manageable changes that you feel you will be able to sustain for life. Then start reducing your portion sizes and try to walk as much as you can (I could barely manage 1 km when I started). Try not to ban anything but avoid and reduce those naughty calorie laden foods. Before you know it the weight will come off.
Good luck
I'm with Sueper on this. I needed to lose at least 8 stone, 10 to be mid range healthy. I only started recently, but I felt the same, it felt like a huge mountain and unattainable, so I buried my head in the sand, convinced I would fail before I had even begun. Sueper is right...whatever the loss is, big or small, everything is a step in the right direction and we have to begin somewhere. Unless they have drastic surgery, no-one miraculously loses 10 stone overnight, it's a slow steady journey which we are in for the long haul. Weight will likely fluctuate a bit along the way (it's happened to me already, and last week I have no idea why - talk about frustrating!). The main thing is to just keep going and not give up...any healthier change you make is a positive one and helps towards the end goal. To split it into smaller chunks of weight is a good idea. Aim for one stone first, and when you get there congratulate yourself. I have a pic somewhere in my past posts which has packs of butter. Each pack is half a pound. So, if you have a week where you think, I only lost half a pound, remember it's a pack of butter, and that's a lot!
We are all here for you, this place is fab just keep posting and commenting, it will help you to stay on track and as a bonus you pick up tips and ideas along the way. The support is invaluable.
Try to plan a bit as to what you will eat, I'd say. I always allow one 100 cal snack every day, so that when I get to my weak time, the evening, I know I have something I can fall back on, I just include it within my daily calories. I keep a food diary so I can see where I might be going wrong too.
Good luck, you can do this!

Be kind to yourself...and post and reply to posts...really helps to keep you focused! Good luck!
I have done this also. Just lost one stone again now. So much to go. You are not alone.
In a word yes. I am not enjoying trying to deal with it but I am trying. I am hoping to share support.
Look for a 're balance ' course. I' doing one now and it's definitely not a diet. But we explore together why we put on weight and how to change those habits. I've lost a little already without starving myself.
Exactly done my first day today as im a 'ill start tomorrow' person! seems so far away for me at the moment ive roughly 7 stone to loose and feel like ill never get there but i will and once ive lost the first stone it will be so much easier.
I think for most of us we have felt the same way.
I remember when I was 18 and 118 kilos how huge I felt and when I started to lose weighty I swore I would never go back there.
I am now 54 and 132 kilos so yes I completely understand what you are saying. I have around 60 kilos (130 lbs) to lose so I understand that feeling of a mountain in front of you.
I understand the mountain too hard to climb feeling BUT I think quite often its that its a mountain too hard to climb quickly i.e. we do not want to have to think about spending the next year or whatever it is having to restrict our diet. It seems to hard.
A few things - which others may have said but have not read the other posts...
Stop looking at your entire weight loss and just focus on a small goal. At my last weigh in I was 132 and my goal is to be under 130 on Monday.
Once I achieve that goal my next goal will be 125 kilos and my reward will be a new pair of shoes...and so on. Break your weight loss into manageable chunks.
Write your goal on ia post it and put iot somewhere you will see it all the time like the bathroom mirror, just to remind yourself of what you are trying to do.
I assume you avoided telling us how much you have to lose because you are embarrassed? Well don't be many of us, including myself, are like the side of a house but this is a supportive caring group and you are safe here
Plan, plan, plan. When you do not have a healthy snack in the house or your next healthy meal planned it makes it way too easy to fall into the trap of just going to the shop and buying junk.
Be kind to yourself. When you stumble don't curse yourself out just get back up, dust yourself off, accept that you will make a mistake occasionally and get back to whats important.
When you feel the need for junk food, breathe. Breathe in for 4 second, hold for seconds, breathe out for 8 seconds. Promise to do that simple thing BEFORE you plunge in to a bag of crisps. 4-7-8
Get myfitnesspal on your phone and start logging your food NOW. Its simple, its free and many of us use it - its a great app and makes counting calories simple as anything.
Hope some of these help
You can do this. I know it.
