I am really going to make an effort now, and the only way I seem to be able to do it is write everything I eat down, otherwise things just seem to creep into my mouth without me noticing. I have bought a new book to write it down in, I'm sure that will help. What do you think?

A food diary works for me. Helps focus the mind. Not sure if you are into technology but if you have a smart phone you can download an app that helps you record and calculate your calories. If not pen and paper is the way forward - anything that helps I guess.
I have that same problem Chrissie - whenever I go round Sainsbury's and open my mouth to talk, a doughnut seems to jump into it. Pesky things...
But I think you've definitely got the right idea - I can only seem to lose weight by counting the calories and planning what I'm having for the day. Have you tried something like myfitnesspal (apps and internet access) ? It's a good way of keeping track and counting those calories.
Good luck
Lol Lucca ! Those pesky doughnuts!
That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it
That's brilliant, if we are not honest with ourselves about what we put into our mouths we conveniently forget what we have eaten.
Even if you eat something that's not planned it is still better to record it.
What a better excuse to buy a new notebook.
I love New stationary, I know sad !!!!!!!!!!
Good luck for the week.
I echo the others . Your priciple is right but I too use myfitnesspal. It is so much quicker. It has a barcode scanner. You can import recipes. It calculates the calories per portion . Also it checks your % of fat carbs protein fibre and nutrients so you can check you are balancing your diet properly. It also works out how many calories you burn doing exercise. If you have a smart phone it's the way to go.
P's I would use the note book to blog my feelings, record compliments, maybe record measurements. Say how buying a size smaller felt etc

Hi I am going to do the same, a diary is a great idea. I am also going to include an exercise plan. GO FOR IT!
Noting everything down is a great idea. I've been doing it for 21 weeks, on those days when I struggle I make a note of what happened that day and what effect it had on my eating. If I have a week when I don't lose as much weight as I had hoped or where I maintained, I check back to previous weeks to see what I'd done differently.
Good luck to you on your new healthy eating regime.
Hi Chrissie
Perfect - logging every bite you take is the BEST way to remain accountable and counting calories is usually the best way for us to realise how many we actually eat.
Counting calories has seen me make small changes like I now get a long black with milk instead of a skinny cappuccino. I enjoy almost as much and it saves me 100 calories to eat elsewhere - I guess it just helps to make you THINK about each thing you eat.
Like a few others here I am a true Myfitnesspal advocate - and its free!
BUT we are all different and if you prefer writing it down then thats for you.
I wish you the very best of luck on your journey...but you don't need luck as long as you plan, plan, plan!
