Hi

I'm no expert mind but for what it's worth...

I used to do a class called body pump, although think it's got a different name in different gyms, twice a week in the old days.

It was weightlifting to music basically and was excellent for toning. My body shape-especially my arms really changed. Needless to say I've got a way to go again but we used to do a whole triceps track which worked a treat.

There are a few free weight exercises you can do-if you're at a gym just ask one of the instructors. You can use tins of beans in the house if you're not in a gym...would just need to google triceps exercises so you toned the right area.

bye bye bingo wings

The NHS website has some suggestions, including press-ups (plank?), but I find them a bit difficult to do! Try some bicep/tricep curls, with weights. If you make your own bread, the kneading process is good for toning arms.

Afraid I agree with Lisa! I have been fat for over 30years and am now in my 60s, so my skin has slackened and the only way to get rid of my bingo wings (which would be worse once the weight goes off because of all the loose skin!) will be to have surgery! Exercise tones the muscle but the skin will just hang down below.

Stand with feet shoulder width apart. Arms outstretched at shoulder height holding light weights or cans of beans. Try to do this for up to 5 minutes. It took me a while to build up to it, it's harder than it sounds!! It works really well if done regularly. I also found regular scrubbing with a body scrub and moisturising daily helps to improve the appearance of the skin on my arms.

Thanks for the advice, I shall give it a go. I like the thought that there is an eccentric part!

Hi fibron, I am quite concerned about slack skin during weightloss and have done a bit of research on it. The 4 important things I identified are - taking multi vitamins, using firming cream with collagen and elastin, drinking enough water and doing resistance exercises. I bought 10 Minute Solution - Tone Trouble Zones [DVD] and it is pretty good. You need one of those giant elastic bands. I found the actual exercises (I did 20 minutes) quite easy but really noticed it the day after in my thighs, stomach and shoulders. Not sure whether all of this will help avoid the loose skin but at least it feels like I am trying to prevent it. You could also try yoga. Hope that helps a bit. Good luck.

Thank you thats all very interesting. I have some bio oil for after i shower and i do weights every few days, i will look into some exercise that incorporates problem areas into my routine. Its the drinking lots of water i struggle with, im pretty dehydrated but struggle to drink loads so trying to increase that, so hopefully that will help too

I don't think we need to drink loads (even though that seems to be the general consensus), if you look into to it you may find you only need to drink an extra glass of water a day:)
