Toppings for bread?

Hi. I'm in danger of relying a lot on low fat cream cheese and getting very bored of it. I suppose low fat hummus is a good toast/oatcakes etc. But I can't think what else to use. Any ideas?

Hi Maroo,

How about tuna fish mixed with a small amount of mayonnaise; or some chicken (not sure if you eat meat and fish or not); how about some smoked salmon; or some tomatoes with a little cheese? Or how about having some pilchards or mackerel on toast.

Hope some of those suggestions are helpful.

Thank you Lowcal. Great ideas. I had been thinking about really low calorie toppings in the way that cream cheese can be, but perhaps these are more realistic and more nutritious too. I might make some kind of tomato based topping I can use for when I need something really light.

I have Quark which is fat free soft cheese but rather than bread or oatcakes I have rice or corn cakes. They are lower in calories so allow for more calories in topping. Peanut butter is very filling.

Try Heinz toast toppers for a change, provided you spread thinl, they are a comfort food but quite low cal and tasty too!
