I have the gastric band book, recommended by someone who had great success with it. In relation to Concerned's comments the prep section is important because it's an aid not the sole solution. I have done the two week prep and need now to listen to the cd. I think basically if your motivated and receptive it will help but not a panacea .

No - I have in the past tried others of his CDs but none worked.

Can I suggest instead that you watch this BBC Horizon programme, "Eat, Fast and Live Longer" which should contain all the motivation you need to lose weight vimeo.com/54089463 - I lost three stone in six months!

Thank you Gingernut49 I have found it very interesting and useful.

I've used his relaxation CD for years - freebie in the Daily Mail yonks ago! It's only 25 mins, and I always drift off! Now whither it's him or just the fact I'm sitting still who knows, and who cares! I still relax!

I'm afraid Sandra the best way to lose weight is diet and life style change! Hard work, but worth it! I've lost 6 stone! Then sticking to it.

Yes I have was a few years ago. Used to listen to the cd before bed.

Not sure what happened to the cd lost it now.

But I did lose weight through it and it was easy.

I have tried his how to lose weight book. The CD does nothing for me, but the rules he gives actually helped me lose weight.

1) only eat when you are hungry [takes some getting used to as you have to learn to listen to your body]

2) stop when you are full (or think when you are full) [too many of us are conditioned to finish everything on the plate!]

3) make sure you drink plenty of water [if you think you are hungry, usually, it is the body wanting fluid intake - have a drink, and if you still feel hungry 15 minutes later, it is because you are]

4) can't remember the 4th rule, but there were two interesting points - eat what you want to eat [the body regulates it self, eg cravings for certain kinds of foods] and don't watch tv, read or do any other distracting thing while eating (make the effort to sit down and eat properly) [if you concentrate when you are eating, you are more likely to know when you are full]

I have lost 2 stones following these guidelines. It is just about listening to your body and knowing the difference between real hunger and thirst/emotional eating.

Thank you for your reply -- I have just bought his latest book ' freedom from emotional eating ' & it concentrates on the 4 steps you mention. Well done for losing your 2 stones . I hope that i will be able to report a similar success in due course!! Must admit I always read when eating -- mistake no 1.

Personally, it has worked very well for me. When I don't follow the rules, I feel the difference - for example, today, we had a work lunch at Nandos. I reached my limit and kept eating (peer pressure) and I feel the worse for it now. I do have problems with 'emotional' eating, but generally, the rules given in his books are nothing out of the ordinary, and similar in principle to the 5:2 diet. At a basic level, we are all afraid of going hungry. But really, in this day and age, that is never going to happen for most of us. We are never far away from a source of food, what with a cafe/takeaway/macdonalds/tesco etc on the next corner. The 5:2 diet workss in a similar way that you only diet for 2 days a week, and you are not afraid of being hungry because you know that the next day you get to eat as normal. Personally, I think it's easier to apply Paul McKenna's rules every day. I get to eat the food I want to eat so long as I am genuinely hungry.

Thanks ..... I look forward to putting all this into practice properly next week as have a lot of socialising this weekend although I hope to employ the principle of not overeating ! Sandra

Many thanks to you all for replying to my Paul Mc Kenna post . I shall be giving it a serious go & hope to report back with a steady loss !!

I am quite new to this forum but can see from your posts that you are extremely well versed in nutrition & obviously very ardent about it.However, I really want to just get into the mindset of knowing when I am truly hungry before eating & not merely as an emotional release.

Hello, I've followed the rules and lost 2 stone 4 pounds. But then I've moved back to my home country and due to familiar foods, gathering for eating and a stressful period I dropped the rules and slowly gained all the weight back. I tried many times to get back on the wagon, but never managed to do it. I was so close to success I regret not managing my emotions well enough back then.

Has anyone faced a similar situation? Did you managed to get back on the wagon?

Hiya, I bought the book with the cd a few years ago when he did that mini series on tv. I never stayed awake long enough to hear the whole cd - it was a brilliant relaxation tool! The 4 rules listed above I have found useful when you're in a situation where it's difficult to choose the food you'd prefer to eat for health or weight loss. it's a good means of damage limitation when there's too much to choose from like a buffet and it helps you keep control.

Not what you're looking for?
