All of these drinks, pills etc are a complete con and waste of money. Get yourself Kate Harrison's book, The 5:2 Diet, and do that. It works fantastically and, once you've lost the weight you want to, it stays off! I lost three stone on it and now maintain by limiting my calories to 500 one day a week. You'll save so much money instead of wasting it on diet club memberships and you won't put it back on again. Apart from the weight loss, fasting reduces your risk of cancer, diabetes, heart disease and dementia so it's a win-win! Kate's book is on Amazon and you can download it also.

The diet is based on a fantastic Horizon programme that aired a year ago (Eat, Fast and Live Longer - you can still find it on Vimeo) and has changed so many lives. There are support groups on Facebook like the 5:2 Diet one that will keep you motivated.

Yes, it needs self-control to limit yourself to 500 calories two non-consecutive days a week, but it's only two days a week and it really works!

Hi Gingernut, I had no intention of trying Aspire but then again I have been told by my GP not to do the 5-2. Which is a shame as I am in love with Michael Mosley. The hold food and drink subject interests me. Thanks for your reply.x

The 5:2 diet is just another way of reducing your carbohydrates. There are several low carb sites if you are interested. I try to have at least one carb free meal a day.

The only trouble with 5:2 ( I have my own reckless version) is when folks are trying it at work, they think they can eat what they like on the 5 days and you do need to stick to around 2000 cal on those days, clearly they don't otherwise they wouldn't be gaining weight and be overweight :)

I did 5:2 diet for a few months. Can't say I enjoyed it but I do think it affected my metabolism in a positive way!
