Hi sailinglady12 i am new here but have been diagnosed with PCOS since 15 years old and am 38 now. I know this comment was made 6 months ago, how are you getting on with Spironolactone? I was prescribed Spironolactone at one point. I dont believe it made a real difference to the hair growth, maybe slowed it down slightly. I stopped when i lost a significant amount of weight. You have to also stop if you are considering becoming pregnant so this is something to think about. I was prescribed a cream called Vaniqa which did help slow hair growth for me but i stopped using it.

When i was younger i used to wax and bleach the hair but then i started to have IPL laser treatment. Unfortunately it is not available through the NHS if you are in the UK and it can be expensive so not suitable for everyone, but this was the only thing that i felt that worked for me personally. I continue at home IPL treatment which has helped to reduce the hair growth massively, it takes time and patience but it does work. Phillips do a range of products now that you can use in the privacy of your own home.

Mentally it is a really tough thing to cope with as you notice it on a daily basis or it something that you have to remove on a daily basis. Its a difficult thing to talk about with anyone as they may not understand how it feels and its an individual journey. I have facial and body hair growth which i have learned to remove or hide, but it can be mentally exhausting due to worry and anxiety about it. If it is affecting you loads, maybe reach out to your GP again for help with the mental effects of PCOS.

Hope this response helps you somewhat and that you are doing well otherwise! xx
