Hi Everyone 🙋🏻‍♀

I’m 28 years old and been officially diagnosed with pcos for over 11 years (although new from age 14 I was highly likely to have it!) since being diagnosed I have had very seldom periods.. lucky to have one a year! Since September 2020 I have bled non stop with a around 17 days in that time period of not physically bleeding but still having all the symptoms of a period. Since September I have felt highly depressed, extremely tired and been in scrutinising pain (back, abdomen, and breasts). My GP has referred me to gyne which I have an appointment for next month but I’m sick of being told to basically deal with PCOS and everything it comes with! I recently lost nearly 3 stone and everything has got worse! I don’t want to live my life like this and want to leave my appointment with a solution! Has anyone been in the same situation as me? What can I do to stop this long term and how can I ensure my PCOS is properly managed in the long run? I’m really worried as to what’s going on but if PCOS is the cause I want to make sure I never have to suffer this hell again!

Hi, I'm sorry to hear you are struggling so much.

I'd suggest that while waiting for your gynae appt you ask your GP if they can offer you something to regulate your flow. Often gynae will just refer you back to your GP for the issuing of a prescription anyhow, in my experience.

If it is only how often you bleed they are likely to suggest birth control.

If you have already tried this without success, or there is a valid reason you can not take birth control, there is a possibility they might prescribe you Mefenamic acid (which is used for pain but also can help with bleeding) or Tranexamic acid.

However, I'm not sure if they will prescribe either of the last two unless your flow is heavy as well. My own experience is that the symptoms they were.prescribed to me for are pain, frequency, and heaviness all together.

However, it doesn't hurt to ask. I believe whole heartedly that if you don't ask, you don't get, and the worse they can say is no.

Tranexamic acid ended up being what worked for me, but it did take a.couple months of daily use before it began working and I have to continue to take it daily for my needs. Often, though, it is only prescribed for while you are bleeding.

Give them a Google so you know more about them and try and see if you can get a gpnappt to discuss further is my suggestion.

Whatever you choose to do, I wish you luck in finding the solution that works for you.

I spot every day for weeks on end and don’t have proper periods at all. My spotting is quite heavy but doesn’t have period pains. I’ve recently been told to take Provera 3 times a year to induce a proper bleed and this seems to be helping with the spotting in the meanwhile. I wonder if this would help for you too.

I have just recently been diagnosed with PCOS. I myself have been bleeding constantly for 5 months at a heavy flow. Before this I had came off the contraceptive injection because of irregular bleeding. Although I feel so bad for you, it is reassuring to see another woman experience bleeding for as long as me. It really makes you disconnected from your own body and interferes with day to day life and relationships. GPs don’t seem to understand how bad this effects our mental health. I send you all my love that you can get sorted and get answers.

Hey, how did you get diagnosed with pcos? I get really heavy periods for about 5 6 days at the most. When I'm not on my period I get pelvic pain.I had an ultra sound scan about a month ago and she was happy with it and couldn't see anything wrong.

I got my bloods done and was told to do them on the 2nd day off my period which I did.

My blood results have came back saying my ovaries are not working as they should properly?

I have been referred to a gynaecologist but now I'm a worrier. As I'm only 25 it's not the news you want to be hearing.

I'm constantly now googling things I shouldn't. I've basically been left with "your ovaries are not working as they should"

My periods are fine, just heavy for the 1st 2nd day passing clots then it's normal after. Can anyone give me some advice please? Thank you!
