Hi, I’m Hannah. I’m 21, I was diagnosed with pcos at 14.
Lately, I’ve been struggling so bad with my weight. Although I’m eating the healthiest I have been for years, I am gaining weight. I don’t eat carbs, high protein and plenty of fruit and veg. For me, it is so hard to understand how I can’t control this, I see people all the time mentioning how they want to loose a few pounds, and here I am wanting to loose half my body weight.I wish there was doctors there to support and try new things, I need new options because I feel like I’ve been thrown in a body I don’t want to be in.
It’s so mentally draining everyone expecting me to loose weight and to that, so easily. It’s so detrimental on my mental health and physical state.
I just feel so.. alone. Like there’s nothing that will ever take this away or help. I have to put up with this and not do or feel normal things because of a condition I never had a choice in.
I am so frustrated with the lack of attention given to people who suffer with this. We need more, more advice and more acknowledgement.
I’m truly suffering, I don’t know how to change things. It’s just awful.. I wish I knew.

Are you combining healthy eating with exercise everyday? As those are the two ingredients for loosing weight.
PCOS basically produces extra insulin, which is in turn making it hard to loose weight.
The NHS have loads on their website. Have you tried couch to 5K which is on there? Their calorie counting plan? How long have you been actively, including no cheat meals tried to loose weight?
I'm not reading from what you have said that you are moving much. I've been walking 10,000 steps everyday and now starting loosing the weight, I've lost 18lbs since April. Which isn't loads, but it is a start.
It isn't easy to loose weight, particularly will PCOS, but try and move, as people we watched to many screens these days and I know its not easy with covid as well, but you should see some results then.
My symptoms and issues with pcos are different to yours. However, I feel very similar that its a condition that I never had a choice in and why can’t I just be a normal woman.
I also feel frustrated by the lack of attention given to PCOS and the fact that essentially one (two) of our organs don’t work properly... it impacts at least 1 in 10 women.. causes so many other health issues... but yep it can often feel like no one really cares in the world except the women that have it.
So I just want to say to you that it will get better. You will find your way of coping. You will find the diet that works for you. You will find (eventually) some support from a health service. And you will find some contentment. It’s just going to take some time, patience and resilience (and tears!) in the meanwhile but it will get better!
Start keeping logs of things like food diaries, sugar cravings, moods, any supplements you can take... it won’t happen overnight but you will start to see what works for you and what doesn’t. And keep pestering your health care service until you get the support you need.
I hope this helps and remember you are not alone X
Hi Hannah, I know exactly how you feel! I’m 22. I used to be pretty slim only 2 years ago but ever since I started getting symptoms, I’ve been putting on so much weight. Last year I really got into fitness and healthy eating and saw some results but it was so hard to get anywhere and I never got back to how I looked before. It’s very draining because I know that even when I try my best, it’s not good enough. I’m still not normal!! I’ve had an MRI scan to confirm whether it’s pocs or endometriosis but so far I’ve had no treatment for it.
