PCO not PCOS

Hi, I am new here. I have been diagnosed with polycystic ovaries but not PCOS. I have pain low down in ovary area, mainly on the left but comes and goes and almost radiates into my groin. I have very regular periods, not heavy. No other symptoms of PCOS. I have been trying for a baby and luckily got pregnant fairly quickly. I have just had a miscarriage at 6 weeks pregnant and I am pretty sure I had a very early miscarriage in July too. The doctors aren’t really helpful and say i have just been unlucky. but I really don’t want to go through another miscarriage I am only 26 and really do believe this is playing a part in my pregnancy loss. Does anyone have a similar experience? Thanks

I am very sorry for your loss 💔 Like you, I have Polycystic ovaries with regular cycles but not regular ovulation. I had a miscarriage too at 11 weeks, but baby stopped growing at 6-7 weeks (missed miscarriage).

As you had only one miscarriage there is nothing else they can tell you at this stage. You are very young and I am sure it will happen for you very soon ✨💕

They will start testing you at 3 losses. I had a similar situation, I lost around 10 weeks, then two around 6..they will do blood tests and check your partners sperm. I went on to lose a baby at 20 weeks this year.. All I can recommend is what I did differently to get past the first stage is walk more, I'd change jobs too, so less stresses may have been a factor. I was also taking alpha Infolic, which is supposed to be good for PCOS.

Generally make sure you are eating well and a good weight. Take folic acid everyday and if your over a BMI of I think its 32 they recommend 5mg of folic acid everyday, it just really helps the babies growth.

If you do get further along I'd recommend not taking baths, not having sex, just because I had BV with my most recent loss, and it can be caused by sex and it can cause what happened to me.. Just to give yourself the best chances.

Good luck! You have time of your side xx

Thank you for responding. I will look into the alpha infolic! I only have PCO I do not have PCOS and it’s hard to find info on this but I will take all of your tips on board. Thank you and best wishes to you xx

What's PCO? I don't have the symptoms as such hairy, spot and was thin in my 20s. I was diagnosed by a scan? I now have periods, but are irregular. When you say regular, they happen at the same time? Mine happen every month but can vary between days, which means I may not be ovulating every month and similar to you, if I am it Could vary weeks, which is not great when trying to get pregnant.

But from the sounds of it, the issue we have is not getting pregnant it is staying pregnant. I know its hard to be positive but many women have had a few miscarriages and gone on to have perfectly healthy children. I know to from personal experience two at least.

Apparently having a miscarriage the first couple of times can be your body getting ready for a baby.

Stay positive, keep trying and if in the worst case it happens again get those tests to rule anything out.

I was also diagnosed by a scan but have very regular light periods and always have done and like you I have none of the other symptoms so my doctor said polycystic ovaries are something some women get and more common than you think. Normally it’s something accidentally diagnosed when doing an ultrasound for another reason as was mine when I had pelvic pain in July. I am still at a loss as to what this pain is - I wouldn’t say it’s painful but it’s there and annoying!

I agree the issue is staying pregnant, I got pregnant within 2/3 months of trying which surprised me! I explained this to my gynaecologist and he said that next time I get pregnant if I start to spot I can go on progesterone supplements as this may help (I don’t think it’s 100% proven but I am happy he mentioned it).

I have also heard that, I think as this is my first baby maybe my body is wondering what’s going on. It’s just tough as I have so many friends who drink/smoke and have unhealthy lifestyles and they are fine.

Thank you 💗 - it really does help taking to someone. I really hope that I was just unlucky and it’s nothing to do with PCO xx

The first time I got pregnant was literally the same month we started trying, was super easy. I know many friends that have tried for years with no success. So was prepared for the wait. We couldn't believe our luck, but unfortunately it's not the end just getting pregnant. It's taken over a year the other times, but sometimes life gets in the ways to actively try. Also after the losses we wanted to know if there was a reason, but all the tests came back fine for both of us.

I'm taking progesterone this time round and I truly believe it may help people like us, as our hormones are unbalanced and progesterone is an important hormone in pregnancy. It won't do any harm so why not. It also from a study helped people with multiple losses.

It is hard, when I lost my last baby, when I came out the hospital there was a women heavily pregnant just stood outside smoking...i really had to stop myself from saying something I was so mad at her.

It's super hard for me seeing pregnant women and prams.. So totally understand the pain.

Just do everything you can control, like eating healthy and looking after yourself.
