Hi everyone, I’ve just turned 18 and I got diagnosed with PCOS at 16. Im having a really hard time at the moment as I have realised that my excess hair is now becoming way too extreme for me to deal with. At first it was my stomach, moustache and side burns but I have now found that I have a full beard that attaches from ear to ear. I was wondering if anyone has any idea of to how to deal with this as it is starting to affect the way I look at myself.

Hello! I always felt that the combined pill helped ease the symptoms. I was on dianette for several years (from 14 yo) then microgynon. I also did laser treatments that really helped (my skin is pale with dark hair which is the best kind to work) and a hair treatment with minoxidil as I was stating to get bald.

I was also never too over weight but I felt that after I lost some (cutting down carbs and sugar) my hair situation improved.

I hope you find a way to cope! Xx

Laser really is the way to go but is expensive, I had it done about 10 years ago but the average is 15 sessions and not 6 as they often suggest. Made a massive difference to my self confidence (as I literally had a beard!) IPL is not as effective I didn't find.

The other option is a wet and dry epilator as they can be used on the face now which may help. You can also get a cream from the GP called vaniqa which slows down the speed of hair growth.

One thing I would say is that it never looks as bad as you think it does!!
