Hi just thought I'd introduce myself I've been diagnosed with Pcos recently, had a lot of bloods taken and scans. Now have to get my bmi down from 38 to 30 which I know I'll be able to get my head into it by keep telling myself anyone can do it, but will that actually make my periods more regular?
Hi everyone: Hi just thought I'd introduce... - PCOS UK (Verity)
Hi everyone
Hi Stacey☺️
I've recently been diagnosed with PCOS too. My BMI is approx. 34 and I have been told by my doctor that I must get this down to limit the symptoms of PCOS. Unfortunately I can't offer any help with the period query as I have the implant and this has stopped my periods all together. I am thinking of asking my doctor for Metoformin as after reading the forums this seems to have helped a few people!
I wish I could be of more help!
Hi thanks for getting back well what made me go and check was I haven't used any contraception for 5 years and now I've been diagnosed with pcos I no why, because of a high bmi the doctor will not give me anything until I get down to 30 as apparently it's the NHS rule. So I will see her again in 6 months then she will start doing test and medication so in the mean time it's to get my bmi down but I'm not sure its going to help periods
Sadly you are often told that weight loss is a miraculous cure to all PCOS symptoms, sadly it is not, yes weight loss can work with some ladies but doesn't with all as we have slender pcos ladies too.
The combined pill can help with the weight loss (you have to get the right one for you), I find it much easier to lose weight when I am on it. One thing to remember is that we naturally gain 2lb a month just by eating the recommended daily allowance, so over a stone a year, so do need to eat considerably less just to maintain our weight. I love the 5:2 diet now my head has got around it and it has changed how I feel totally about being hungry. Generally low GI is the way to go though.
Implant and depo injections are a huge no no from a pcos point of view and can make the symptoms worse so avoid like the plague!
