I blended everything except the seeds and then pressed the seeds into the top afterwards and refrigerated them. They are slightly fragile so if anyone has any tips on how to get them to hold together better, I would be grateful. I saw on line it said add golden syrup and although they looked very nice I donโt want the sugar and I want them to be as healthy as they can be. Any Ideas? ๐ค

They look lovely Ali. I would add more dates and medjool ones as they are great at binding things together. Have you thought about using shredded coconut instead?
I'm like you, I wouldn't wangvto add golden syrup either.
I must broaden my horizons and mske some different raw bars, I'm so addicted to the ones I make.๐
Hi! Do you think shredded coconut would have more holding power than ground? Iโve used it all up now so maybe I should get shredded next time or maybe like you said add more dates, I did use medjool but want to add the minimum I can as they hurt my teeth ๐ฌ๐
I had another thought as well, how about soaking the oats. I think ground coconut could make the mixture dry. I certainly would think about adding more dates.๐
Yes I think thatโs a good idea plus more dates, peanut butter and chia seeds. These arenโt very sweet so there is more room for dates. I am surprised how tasty they are, they are as good as bought ones. I think next time they will be even better. ๐
My raw fruit bars have dates, nut butter, shredded coconut and cacao powder and I've had them inadvertently in the fridge for a month! I made some to take on holiday last year and left them behind๐. I would say you could probably keep them for 2 weeks in the fridge, if they last that long๐คฃ๐คฃ
Thatโs really helpful. Thank you for that. Iโve got cacao powder so will add that as well. I bought some foil lined parchment paper to wrap them in.
Oh Alicia how annoying! We would make a right pair as I went to the wholefood shop about 40mins drive away yesterday and forgot to get the shredded coconut, which is what I went there for! ๐ now Iโve got everything except that. Oh well, maybe Iโll have to try them without. ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ
Hi, I made my bars this morning with dates, oats, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, cacao, a handful of nuts and nut butter. I think thatโs everything. I decided to soak the dates in hot water for half an hour. Then blended everything except the seeds and some of the nuts. They are absolutely delicious so thank you for your help. I donโt think Iโll ever buy them again! ๐๐
Yay, that fantastic to hear Ali. I'm with you, homemade are amazing and do not take very long to make. I do fall back on ones from Aldis as I do like them but they are the only ones. I don't actually like Nak'd bars anymore because of eating homemade ones.
Think I will follow your lead now and make some up with some dates, oats and seeds etc as I love all of the ingredients and they are so good for you.
I have just joined this forum recently and think your recipe ideas are brilliant. I am not vegetarian rarely eat meat but sometimes struggle for ideas so appreciate your posts. On the seed bars I wonder if a small portion of melted Pure dairy free spread would help bind the ingredients. I am currently on holiday but will try on my return.
Yes, I think that might work if I soaked them first. I should have put chia seeds in these so Iโll put them in next time and give it a go. Between us all we have a super seed bar in the making ๐๐ Ali
Yes thatโs a good idea. I could add coconut oil. I made some more and added peanut butter this time and more dates and they are pretty good. They are staying together very well and are super healthy. ๐ Ali
Hi, I realise this is thread is from two months ago but it caught my eye as I want to make my own oat and nut/seed bars incorporating chia and flax; the above is all really interesting! Does anyone have an actual recipe with ratios of ingredients? When I try (and I really am not a natural baker/cook!) mine fall apart or go rock solid! Many thanks in anticipation
Here are a couple of links to recipes I think look good and adding chia or flax wouldnโt be a problem. I think these raw bars would stay together well too from the comments I have read on VFL regarding fruit and nut bars. As long as you have enough dates I donโt think these should fall apart. If you use this recipe or a different one it would be great to hear how you get on as there are a few of us on here who have a โthingโabout delicious nut and fruit bars (that donโt fall apart. Iโve had the same issue) . Iโve been buying nakd bars which can work out quite expensive. Good luck!
