Making nut butters

I have made a few nut butters but didn't realise that the food processor I have isn't strong enough for grinding nuts. I use the butter to make raw fruit bars which I love.

My question is, is there anyone that makes their own nut butter and if so what food processor do they use?

Hoping someone can help.

Thank you.

Hi, I make nut butters regularly. I was very lucky and able to buy myself a vitamix professional series 750. I bought it specifically for nut butters. It’s amazing but even so you do get a burning smell so have to be very careful not to over heat it. I think it takes between 5 - 10 mins to produce a jam jar size amount. As this blender is very powerful and it still runs the motor for this amount of time to produce a smooth butter I would be very cautious in using everything less powerful as it would burn out I would imagine. For me the blender is worth every penny as I also sometimes make my own butter and always my own milk and as the blender is so good you don’t have to soak the nuts so you can make the milk as you need it, if necessary. Also the blender is very easy to clean. Actually it has a self cleaning mode. It makes smoothies and ice cream etc as well as good for making burgers, hummus etc (It also makes soups but I don’t use that.) I hope that helps. Anything you would like to know feel free to ask 🌞

Thank you so much Agoodenough for your very comprehensive and helpful response, it is much appreciated. I will have a look at that one later today. Also thank you for the bit about nut milk, that's really useful.

Have a lovely day 😀

Thank you and when I make the next batch I'll post a picture and recipe. I'm going away soon so it'll be a while before I post a picture 😀

Hi Alicia, I have a Kenwood multi pro food processor which has a separate blender attachment and this is what I use for nut milks/creams, one thing I do is whiz it and then let it stand to be gentler on the motor.

I think Ali's (Agoodenough) advice is very helpful and comprehensive and there's a Topic section on here about nut butters.

Jerry 😊
