Hi Keith

When the Spring Newsletter comes out there is a separate flier about the AGM. It asks if anyone is interested in becoming a Trustee (if there are vacancies).

As a registered charity we have to adhere by the rules of the Charity Commission and by the Trust's Constitution (which has been approved by the Charity Commission). You will find a copy of the Constitution at: vasculitis.org.uk/about/con...

The Constitution states that Trustees have to be elected at the AGM by the majority of the FULL members. "Members of the committee shall serve for a maximum period of two years after which they will retire and be subject to re-election at the Annual General Meeting. To ensure continuity, where circumstances permit, only half of the committee members will be subject to re-election each year."

There must be a minimum of 7 Trustees and Officers and a maximum of 11. At the present time there are 9.

Who can stand as a Trustee? The Trust is run by the Vasculitis UK Trustees and Officers who are all volunteers and unpaid. Anyone putting themselves forward must be willing to take an active part in the Trust's activities and be willing (health etc permitting) to take an active part in Trustees' meetings which are held several times a year.

Trustees must be over 21 and not be undischarged bankrupts. These two rules are laid down by the Charity Commission. The latter applies even if the Trustee is not dealing with finances.

We have never been in a position where there have been more people volunteering than we have vacancies. If that were to happen then I would imagine that the Trustees would want a brief resume of the person applying. Then I assume that a voting paper, and the resume, would be made available to the Full Members who would then vote on the candidate(s) of their choice.

I would suggest that the once the Newsletter is received any would be volunteer contacts John Mills in the first instance.

Hope that helps. PatriciaAnn
