After an appeal I was re awarded DLA at the highest rate for mobility but my care component has been reduced to the lowest rate.

Greatfull as I am to be able to get another car, my last one was repossed because there was a gap of 3 months between the end of the last award and the begining of the new one. I have written to the appeal board asking for a detailed account of their decisions and I have not had a reply. I am finding my finances hard to controll as I am having to manage without £30 from DLA and £25 from income support per week. This means that I have lost out £420 per month. Does anyone have any ideas how I can chivvy them along to resolve this problem?

If you send me an email at sandjmills@btinternet.com we may be able to help. Will have to talk to others who have been through the benefit process themselves. I will look on the Benefits and Works website to see if there is anything on there that may help you Susan

Citizens Advice Bureau will help you with this process if you are finding it hard going balancing with illness.

You can appeal the care component, but will need to prove what it is that means you are entitled to medium or higher rate care. They obviously think that your care needs have lessened so any evidence you can provide e.g. from social worker, consultant, carers etc to show that you need care throughout the day will be important in your appeal.

I would ring or write again and ask for the report from the appeal - that will show you what their decision was based on.

If I can do anything to help, just ask. I know first hand how tiring it can be navigating the system - with enough chasing and evidence you will hopefully get a fair award.

Kind regards
