Covid again - watch this space!

Hi all, sorry I have been a bit inactive recently but not much to tell you all. They say better late than never so here goes.

As you are aware I am being treated with Rituximab to Control GPA, so immune compromised , had my last Covid Jab 10 weeks ago. A fortnight ago we went to London the watch the Athletics , had a great weekend took the normal precautions I.e masks etc but the tube was busy and I have Covid again but this time it’s different. So after being home 2 days (24th July) I started feeling odd, not Covid odd just run down this continued until the Sunday, (I didn’t test because I didn’t think it was Covid) before you all shoot me because of my naivety I admit it was a schoolboy error. The week went by until the Sunday night (28th July) and I started sneezing, did a test Monday morning and Bingo! solid red line ! Anyway the system where we live in North Yorkshire has changed yet again but this time for the better the Local Health Partnership (Humberside and North Yorkshire) has a link on their website where you complete an on line form and submit it for self referral And lo and behold a Nurse rang me on Tuesday asking me when I first got symptoms, how did I feel, I am an honest person so I told her I felt a bit off, a bit snotty but I was fine and still training. She said she would get a Doctor to ring me but it was the last day I could have the Paxlovid (Anti Virals) and said if I was feeling ok after 6 days the worst was probably over. Half an hour later the Dr rang me and concurred that he didn’t think it was necessary this time. I didn’t argue. Thursday morning took a test. Negative! Unfortunately that’s not the end of this story.

Yesterday morning as per guidance took another test, nothing to start but after 15 minutes there was a faint line. It was no coincidence by lunchtime I started feeling heady, aching, just feeling crappy, throat was raw. The evening came and I felt as if it was all exploding in my head. Since Monday I have been taking my temp (never above 37.3) pulse (58-62) and Ox levels (96-98%) despite me feeling crappy last night I slept for 7.5 hours but woke this morning feeling fine in myself but now although lungs clear I am sore in my chest and coughing up all sorts of gunge. Not sneezing any more and nose pretty dry. My eternal hope is it doesn't go onto my lungs. I am doing another test Monday, I know what the result would be today.

So the moral of the story: Yes I was foolish and started celebrating prematurely and have learnt 2 things.

1/ It never over till the FLS. Covid is different and affects everybody differently, I thought the war was over but it was only a battle. Don’t be fooled like me.

2/ Take the drugs and push for them. I made it far too easy because I could sense they didn’t like giving them out. I should have made them work harder. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

There you have it, I am currently in Limbo hoping for the best. Lesson learnt.

I will update on Monday after the test.

Hope you fully recover. I'm going on my first trip in 4 years tomorrow (just to the Lake District), and am planning on wearing a mask where around a lot of people and avoiding indoors still. This is a helpful reminder how easy it still is to get Covid.

Thanks for sharing and good luck with your recovery.

Have a wonderful time. Best to avoid Bowness it’s gets very busy around that area and there’s other parts of Windermere just as lovely.

Good for you Grizzly, hope you have a fabulous time, it’ll do you good that’s for sure. You’re right about how easy it is to catch. To be honest there’s this daredevil in me that’s says best it on your own a set up some antibodies, the line is quite solid again this morning but it’s following the same pattern as when I pick up a cold, it comes in peaks and troughs but a little less every time, that’s what you get with a weakened immune system I think. Anyway enjoy you break and let us know how you got on. Nick.

Thanks Mooka, I feel fine really it’s just like a mild cold but I’ll get there I’m sure, it’s always a risk going away and I think London is a bit of a hot bed for it. Nick.

hi Nick really interesting story about your Covid journey.. it does seem to be different this time around. My son has had Covid ( lives in London) and his family haven’t! He was only unwell for one day!

Wish we could all be given antivirals or able to access via pharmacy would make life easier. Interesting that your system has changed again .. for the better this time .

Hope you are on the road to recovery.
