Hi All

Any advice on when to restart Azathrioprine after Having Shingles? I'm waiting for an appointment with Rhumy but any advice would be appreciated.

I stopped Aza 9 days ago .

Many thanks

I'm not sure this will be good advice but sometimes I used to go a week without taking it....I hate it so much but then I'd just restart taking it as normal. As I know I have to take it for a reason. Maybe just call your gp and double check but I dont see why you couldn't just start taking it as normal. Hope your feeling better after the shingles x

Hi thanks for your reply, I know how you feel , I wish I could stay off it as I feel so much better without it this last few days better pulse getting up in the morning feeling energetic, Coincidence I don't think so I reckon Aza isn't good for you very much.

Cheers

When I started azathioprine I had to build up gradually to a full dose, but I don’t know how long it takes to get out of the system when one stops. If possible I agree: check with your gp before restarting, especially at a high dose. Hope things improve very soon for you.

I had to come off the Aza in September, as my body was no longer metabolizing it. My consultant said that it can take 3 months to be removed from the system.

Hi

3 months. Makes me wonder why stop it for a couple of weeks for shingles if it's in your system for three months after you stop ?

Thanks

I was not advised to stop Aza when I had shingles, so took it throughout?
