There is more than one type of Vasculitis which can affect the sinuses Archie.. Where are you seen and what type of Vasculitis do you have? John's sinuses gave him a lot of bother until his WG (GPA) was eventually brought under control

Male; 70 years old with Wegener's.

Hi Archie2, You have my sympathy. My sinuses play up during a flare. I use a nasal flush which I find helps me a lot. Apart from flushing out all the usual crap it also enables me to breathe through my nose again. It only uses warm water and salt and you can use it as many times as you want. It works for me and it has the added benefit of not doing you any harm. There are some videos on YouTube showing someone using it or something similar. It feels a bit strange at first but I find the effects are very good

Def use a flush. Not nice to start with, but you get used to it & relief is worth it.

If you are having a flare maybe you need to see your doctor? Maybe need to up steroids or need antibiotics? Maybe need referral to ENT?

Unfortunately you may found it something you just have to live with....many GPA sufferers do, I'm afraid.

My husband uses a douche for his nose & sinuses but his ENT dept added a teaspoon of bi carb of soda  & one drop of Johnson Baby Shampoo to the mix with a medication called Pulmicort. Does a good job. Good luck

Dear archie2,

Have you tried putting 'Olbas Oil' around the pillow, when you sleep-this is a mixture of Wintergreen oil, eucalyptus oil along with other 'aromatics'.  I find it VERY useful indeed.  Please do be carful NOT to get any actually up your nose-or indeed too close to it.

Yes the Salt water 'douche' can be helpful-only don't make the saline too strong! (Ow-w-w-w-w-w-o-o-o-o-o-ch!)

Sorry that I can't be any more help-I guess that I'm just useless, in my old age (54).

Take care AndrewT
