Update on veggies.

So I've been back to my old eating habits. Lol. But I've learned so much. I am eating bad due to convenience and cost. So burger joints and coffee shops. And still smoke. But have completely knocked milk which I consumed a ton of. Same with eggs. I also have a fruit smoothie mixed with a plant based vitamin and protien powder. It seems to be helping with all the crap I been putting in my body. That being said I don't take any meds and know what my body is saying now. The way I was living was just adding up and glad I got to this point with out something more serious happening. Balance is key but vegetables I think are vital for your body. I notice many changes from these cutbacks. Just wanted people to know that you are your own doctor and that you can take small steps that will make huge improvements in the way you live. I've been cheating and I notice the side effects happening. Going to try vegan again lol. Let you know how it goes after a couple days.

I have at least five veggies a day with either a cheese omelette or sometimes tin of mackerel, also five fruits a day or equivalent of mostly raspberries, cherries and nectarines...however i do like a slice of cake & a choc ice ...i feel you deserve a treat now and then....I only drink water no hot drinks....i keep to a fairly strict routine as i hope that it's helping....diagnosed in May 2015 with Vasculitis MPA....

You don't say what vasculitis you have? I have gpa and try to eat a balanced diet and exercise as much as my body allows! I managed to give up smoking and that made a big difference so do give it a go if you can. I do need the drugs though to keep me from relapsing.

It really don't matter what vasculitis I have. It's cpan. I found that every problem I've had over the years stems from my eating habits. All the meat and milk has taken a toll. Without balance of veggies. Now I'm the opposite and look or really try to make meat a side to my main dish. And once a day if that. All you people in here. I challenge you to take meat completely out of your diet even for a couple days only. And substitute with plant based protien. And I bet you will feel the positive reaction.

Don't recommend stopping meds but I'd recommend changing diet to plant based only and you will see for yourself. Yes my symptoms have diminished and pretty much are gone. I don't take any harsh meds at all and if I take Tylenol or advil it's one time not all day everyday. Like I was. I hate preaching to people but in our case with such rare diseases I think it's worth a shot. I've basically redesigned my life around what I eat. That's how serious changing ones diet is. So it's been awhile like 8 weeks and I've been cheating with meat as my cravings are hard to manage. But now I know what's causing me the pain in my body. Meat and dairy and by products are all the enemy. Knowing that is half the battle

I start the rituxin today for the rare disease GPA. Legs (feet) and right hand have the vasculitis. Thank you for your post. Am on largely plant-based diet now, a little chicken and fish. Have always been big on veggies. Never smoked. Do you count eggs as dairy???

Yes no eggs. What is eggs? Yes it's nutritious but what effects does it have on our bodies? It's an animals egg..... lol. Find whatever nutrition you get from it in a plant based food. No by products from animals. Eggs cheese etc. Nothing from an animal... period. It's worth a shot. Especially as its helping me tremendously.

Sorry, I need to point out that there is no evidence to support one diet over another as a treatment for Vasculitis. There are over 18 different variants of Vasculitis, some have life and organ threatening symptoms so please don't come of medication without discussing things with your Consultant.

Please bear in mind that any opinions re diet are anecotode. Whilst it's ok to share views and opinions on here VUK has a duty of care to people in this group which includes only recommending evidence based treatments.

Hey no one should stop meds. Never said that. But with the help from your doc and thier tests I bet a healthy plant diet only would not only improve the test results but even more could even help reduce the meds. Just consult with the doc first. It's worked for me and for many others. And in my case it was change my diet or eventually die. So I chose the diet. Always talk to your doc about changes and keep an eye on tests to note improvements.

It doesn't surprise me that no one took the challenge. Here I am after months of eating poorly and in poor condition. Not one person I've told believes me. Or attempted to try no meat. So I'm on week one with no meat still having milk and other by products. Notice changes for sure but still feeling like crap. Ie pain all over the body like fibromyalgia pains. And my theory is that the food you eat gives that pain. I'll post back in couple of days once I take out all animals crud outta my diet.

So it's been awhile now and I haven't touched meat.lol. had some cravings but it's disgusting to me now. Problem is I haven't stopped the by products. So I've noticed improvements but not what i got last time when I went vegan. So today I stop by prodùcts. I'll keep an update but my pain is diminished and need very little nsaids if not any. But still fibromyalgia pains. So not 100% but I'd say 70%. And my phlegm is still present and still black crud in it. I give two weeks and I hope I'll be back on here with good news. Here's to eating to live not living to eat.
