Does anyone have problems with muscles contracting after picking up something. I have found that lisfting a plate can cause my muscles to contract and sometimes it feels like they are ripping.
Thanks

Do you mean cramping? I have PMR, a large vessel vasculitis, and quite a few of us have found that sort of action causes muscle pain that feels like cramp - I used to feel as if my thumbs were trying to tear themselves off when I picked up a plate or anything like that. I suspect it is claudication - you are asking your muscles to do a sustained action and they aren't getting good enough a blood supply to do it for long. I had similar pain when doing repeated actions which was the link for me. I also had something similar if I was wearing gloves and it was worse if they were tighter.
Im notsure id call it cramping. Its like there been pulled after i use them.
That's what a lot of us with PMR feel - we are very limited as to how much "exercise" we can do so we feel as if we'd run a mile rather than just been out for a walk, not necessarily at the time but the next day. However - when I first had PMR I had that sort of feeling in my upper arms after holding a mobile phone to my ear for more than a few minutes! Not exactly hard work or heavy weights that is it? But whatever word we are using I suspect we mean the same thing.
Thats exactly how i feel..i remember years ago if id done strenous walking or running id ache and was weak for days.Thats how i feel now with sorting through some paperwork or moving things from one place to another....very light things.
Can i ask you what PMR is?
Polymyalgia rheumatica. For a lot of info:
who also have a forum
both of which have a lot of info without necessarily posting and asking questions.
There is a forum here on HealthUnlocked but that is more difficult to get info without posting and asking questions.
