What does pain from vasculitis feel like? I ... - Vasculitis UK
What does pain from vasculitis feel like? I have neuropathy, but this pain is worse that I am having now.
It will depend on your type of vasculitis and the nerves affected by your neuropathy. Speaking personally, at tis worse it can require opoid-based pain relief to provide a breakthrough to accopany other pain relieves like gabapentin and amitriptyline.
where is your pain? Have you made your doctor or consultant aware?
I do have neuropathy in my limbs, but this pain is very hard to deal with and my pain meds for neuropathy don't touch it. Hmmm. It must be the vasculitis now that I think about it. I am also have one hand go cold and the other will be warm. I am having a LOT of hot and cold issues. Thanks for your reply.
Well although as yet undiagnosed my skin and joint symptoms include - painful itching, painful burning , painful aching ( like toothache) , painful soreness ( a raw sensation ), painful stiffness. Can be intermittent- can be steady and prolonged - can be mild to very hard to handle - sometimes pain killers help sometimes not. I am also diabetic - don't know if what i have is direct complications from diabetes or another condition or possibly both! Fed up of taking painkillers though!
I worked in diabetes until I had to quit due to health problems. To find out if you have neuropathy ask if you can see a neurologist. The doctor will possibly do a test called electromylogram or EMG to test your nerves. It is important to given that you have diabetes. In the mean time don't go barefoot even around the house. There are meds that can help with this, and they aren't addicting. Oh, and I am diabetic as well due to medication just like what happened with my vasculitis.
Yes - I developed diabetes at 38 following cortisone injection in wrist- six months later diagnosed- specialist said - 'oh yes I think we may have done that to you- but we've probably done you a favour as you would probably have developed it eventually anyway and not known about it till well advanced!!!' Don't even see diabetic specialist annually here as they were overrun and handed us back to local surgery diabetes nurses. I am overdue a review with her ( long story) so am going to set up and have good chat about re referral especially now got this other mystery condition!
