Hi, I doubt it will help you to know, but I get very painful feet. Mostly first thing and at the end of the day, they ache as if I have walked for miles and sometimes, if I have walked for a couple of miles, I get spasms in my big toes, they turn up and fix...a bit like cramp but worse. If I sit for too long I get pins and needles and numbness too. It could be joint pain from the vasculitis (i have WG) and also prednisolone can, I've been informed, cause cramp. But nothing that feels like bubble wrap...I guess we're all different. Take care :-)

Yes! That's a great description. My drs say it's like walking on pebbles, but i think your description is even better.

For what it's worth, my version of this has taken 7 years (plus a lifetime) to achieve comprehensive diagnose & to implement an effective multi system treatment plan. In my case, these feet symptoms are part of a complex of conditions, but basically me & my medical gang of consultants think it's down to the following (they say I'd be much worse now at 60 if I hadn't spent my lifetime taking good care of my feet: sensible shoes, bespoke orthotics etc)

1. Infant onset systemic lupus not receiving consistent systemic treatment until 2.5 years ago. Result: all soft tissues progressively denatured, especially tendons contracted (i.e. in lower legs & feet generally) resulting in forefeet constriction & pes planus....watchfully waiting on vasculitis & dermatomyosotis diagnosis

2. Global Hypermobility (Ehlers Danlos, i.e. paroxysmal heamatomas) ligamentous laxity resulting in mortons neuromas & bursitis/synovitis/capsulitis in both fore feet

3. Secondary raynauds simultaneous with erythromelalgia

4. Persistent numbness, pins & needles, nerve firing, spasms, cramps, nail bed ridges, with flaring vascular rashes

Treatment:

1. Full foot Bespoke orthotic insoles with metatarsal domes

2. 40min gastrocnemius stretching (20 min a.m. + 20 min p.m., 1 min alternating legs)

3. Up to 3 forefoot steroid injections per year

4. 400mg hydroxychloroquine + 1000mg mycophenolate daily, 20mg Amitriptyline nightly, 4 week 10mg prednisolone tapers as required (no more than 3 per year)

probably too much information, but I'm so glad to FINALLY have this much explanation for my version of this stuff, that I can't resist sharing....maybe even a little bit of this reply will be helpful to you, or someone else

And my hands share most of this complex of symptoms...i have a feeling they'd be in TOTALLY the same pickle as my feet if I actually walked on my hands or used them regularly for weight bearing activity....

It used to feel like I had wee stones in my shoes in both feet now it's just in one foot is gradually fading. My consultant says it just takes time. Used to feel like I had electric pulse running through my hands that's gone now too

I just asked if anyone has experienced a popping in their body. I wonder if what you are disc ribbing is the same thing?

I am 82 and I have the same problem you describe i.e "Walking on bubble wrap" It started a few years ago with numbness in my toes and a strange feeling of the skin on my ankles and feet having lost its elasticity. A few months ago i contracted shingles in my groin and then the numbness extended down my left leg and both feet to my soles and has left me with this strange "bubblewrap" feeling in my feet. The shingles and PHN is slowly improving but the numbness remains. I have had a course of B12 injections but my doctor has no further answers and told me it will eventually heal but when only the man up there knows. Can anybody offer help?

Waw, your a very good age, well done! this planet is tough on us physically as we age, im 40 and have what you describe. I reckon its related to nerve damage.

I feel as if im walking on air pockets, no pain, it could be peripheral neuropathy in early stages, im not a doctor though so take my info with caution, i drank alot of alcohol for 20 years, don't now. I have very red heels on feet. They used to burn alot, im overweight, maybe diabetes if im not careful with sugar intake, i love sugar.
