Hi! Which benefits were you applying for? Disability Living Allowance?

Many people are currently being turned down at the first stage. You have the right to ring and ask for the forms to be looked at again - a 'redecision'.

If the outcome is still, "No', then you can appeal and if need be things will go to a tribunal and they will send out medical assessors. Many of us have been through these stages and it is worth persevering. When you do get awarded the benefit, it will be backdated.

Are there other benefits you are applying for on behalf of your son? For example, if he cannot work due to his vasculitis, then he will be eligible for ESA (Employment Support Allowance).

Do ask any questions you'd like and return to CAB for help with the appeal process. I am more than happy to offer any input I can as someone with Behcet's who has been through these systems the past 2 years since having to stop paid employment.

Kind regards...Don't give up!

hi guys thanks for your help, DLA & ESA this is the second time he has applied for it, the first almost a year ago..we are going to appeal decision. my son left grammar school at 19 took time out, then had a few part time jobs. he became ill and no one really knew what was wrong with, he has lost 4stone had a operation to relieve the water build up around his heart (cut a whole the size of a postage stamp in the sack near his heart which allows the fluid to flow).

the medical reports from his consultant and our gp all indicate this and the gp has confirmed that he is not fit for work.

the change of diet, continuous hospital visits and the countless number of tablets he takes has helped him to cope better with his condition.

giving up is not an option...thanks again guys for your input, will keep you posted.

Hi, Did you fill in the form correctly I know this sounds daft but it isn't. When you

fill in the forms did you answer the question as those you were answering each question when your sons illness is at it's worst, Because when filling in these forms that is what cab always advises people to do. Which is supposed to be put on the form and it is in the leaflet they supply with the forms the problem is its in the small print so small even an ant with a magnifying glass couldn't read it.

I would appeal they do this to everybody nowadays and most get it when its been appealed against as well as back pay to the date you first signed the forms

And I would follow John and Susan's advise and join benefitsandwork.co.uk, I,m a member and they also send you regular emails about any up and coming changes to any benefits so your the first in the know for any benefit changes that may affect you, your family or friends and also had a guideline to fill any DWP, DLA, AtA, ESA, SDA forms so you can always be on top.

Hope this helps

Dave

hi dave thanks for your response, both my son and sat with CAB adviser and it took almost 2 hrs to complete the forms.

my son is preparing a document in his own words explaining what he goes thru on a daily basis with CSS. We are then going back to CAB to appeal the decision, hopefully we might get somewhere....thanks for your input.
