Thanks for sharing this with us LynneJ, I agree with the content very much so. Some doctors and consultants do have the talent to demonstrate empathy and compassion in treating their patients while others seem to be in such a rush to give you your five minutes consultation while most of the time what is on their computer screen seems more important. so you leave their surgery feeling why you wasted a good hour waiting to see them and still none the wiser as to how your condition is progressing. "Keep taking the tablets, you'll be fine", is not what I want to hear.
I want to discuss my progress, perhaps adjust my medication, see where we go from here. I also want to help them, if I can, and their students, if present, to better understand what/how the patient is feeling. To discuss their [the patient's] concerns with them especially if a change of medicine regime is being indicated. In doing this the patient, themselves, becomes part of the team in treating the illness affecting them.
This does help very much so in the recovery towards remission.
