Bladder pain while taking cyclophosmide.

My Mum is taking 100mg oral cyclophosmide and has been for five or six weeks now. She has a cathater fitted as she is bed bound at present.

She has just told me that she has bladder pain when having a bowel movement.

Could this be something to do with the cyclophosmide? I have told her to drink lots and she drinks about six glasses of water throughout the day.

Has anyone else had similar pain? What can be done to help apart from drinking more?

I am asking questions all the time as I am so worried about this stuff.

Sorry I don't remember if I had pain or not. Could it be the cathater I wonder?

I am sure someone will be able to give a better answer soon.

I think it is too soon for the bladder pain to be caused by the cyclophosphamide, luggsey. More likely to be the catheter. Can you mention this to her doctor? It needs investigation and, probably, the catheter removed or readjusted somehow. My sister had a similar pain when she was bed bound for 13 weeks and catheterised.

Thank you both, I think the same, when I thought about it some more I realise everything in that area 'expands' during a bowel movement and this is possibly causing pain at the cathter I expect? I spoke to her nurse and they are going to do full checks on it all tommorow, including urine checks for infection. What a worry this all is.

I had bladder pain within a few days of taking oral Cyclophosphamide (later switched to intravenous infusions), despite taking Mesna to protect my bladder, and drinking a lot. So I am not convinced that the Cyclophosphamide might not be responsible, especially after so many weeks on it. She should definitely talk to her doctor. And I hope she is being prescribed Mesna.

Can I ask 'when' you had bladder pain? Mum only get it at during a bowel movement?

I have told her to drink more anyway. Mensa is only given with iv but Mums is on oral cp.

I had it for much of the time. And I was prescribed Mesna even when I was on pills not IV. I really think your Mum should be getting Mesna. It might reduce a problem.
