My wife was on Affinitor for a little over two years and it controlled her metastatic breast cancer fairly well. Her cancer had spread to several locations in her abdominal area. The drug shrunk some of the tumors and held the others at bay. Her tumor markers went from the 700's down to the 70's. It eventually quit working and when her tumor markers got back up around 200 they put her on Tomaxafin in a clinical trial. Amazingly the Tomoxafin which she took for five years immediately after a lumpectomy, chemo, and radiation is working once again. When it quits working she will go on to still another drug. She has been battling cancer now for almost 18 years. Affinitor was just one of several drugs which she has responded well to over the years. All of these drugs have side effects that are not pleasant but have been generally tolerable for my wife and she has been able to stay active and be reasonably happy through all of it. Affinitor is very expensive, around $12,000 for a 28 day perscription, but if you receive it through a clinical trial it might be paid for. Our copay was around $700 per month and we had just a little too much income to qualify for any help from Novartis who produces the drug. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the response to my inquiry. They are testing this drug in stage 2 patients now to see if this drug will prevent reoccurrnce. It has so many side effects that it's scary. I am real happy to know it worked for your wife for 2 years. I pray every night for all of us effected by this awful disease.
