I am six months post transplant. I still feel very swollen and uncomfortable. It gets worse as the day goes on. By the time I go to bed it feels like a balloon ready to burst. I still suffer from fatigue. Anyone else

Hi Kernick,

You probably feel that way because you are overloaded. Have you gotten in touch with your transplant clinic to let them know how you feel?

Thanks but all of my numbers are good and I have spoken to the team and they just say it will get better. It feels the same as it did five months ago.

Hi Kernick, I experienced the exact same symptoms. They did an ultrasound to see if there was extra fluid, but there wasn't. I still suffer from fatigue. Keep in mind that a lot of the meds we are on have fatigue and weakness as a side effect. The doctors said it could take up to a year for the swelling/bloating to go down. I am 8 months post op and still swollen. They tell me this is normal. Hopefully things will get better for you. Ask your docs about possibly taking a small dose of Lasix. Best Wishes to you.

Hi Kernick,

I am nearly 11 months post tx and I am like a roly poly by the end of the day. In fact, by around 6pm, I look 7 months pregnant! I keep telling the team but they say it`s just one of those things. I have put on around 8 kg since my transplant so that doesn`t help but the bloating is terrible. I also have chronic aches and muscle pains which I am sure are caused by the meds but kidney is functioning OK so that`s the most important thing.

OMG I thought it would never end, that damned bloating and swelling. I couldn’t lay flat or I couldn’t breathe. It definitely took me at least a year for it to finally all go away. I was thrilled when I could finally put my shoes on!! Hang in there, it WILL eventually happen, I promise you.

I went through the same thing. Everything was checked out and was fine. The doctors said that this is common. It took me about a year for the bloating to finally start going down. Hang in there, it will get better.

I feel fatigued and could lounge all day but after being out on prednisone I am making an effort to walk more because I don’t want to gain wait. Perhaps that might ease the bloating !
