Prednisone dosage

Hi everyone! Can anyone tell me the lowest dose of prednisone that they are on? My doctor said we could reduce it but she left to run a major kidney transplant program. My new nephrologist said nope without hearing me out or giving any info. (he is not an experienced nephrologist imo). Just curious about the lowest dose and how it is going. Thank you for your input!

It depends on how many years out from the surgery, you immunologic risk profile, the dose of your other immunosuppressive medications, and evidence of how stable your graft has been.

Hi.Had my kidney back in ‘89 from my mum. Initial dose varied greatly but eventually was reduced to 5mg a day. This has been my regular dose for over 20 years now.

My dose is 5 mg but my doctor told me she could bring it down it 3-4 mg because of my weight.

I am taking 5mg a day. Post tx 4 years. It is my units policy to continue to take pred after tx to prevent low level, long term rejection.

I'm also on 5 mg of prednisone16 years after my transplant, but my transplant team offered me the option of switching to no prednisone at all if I were willing to undergo an intensive testing period to determine its safety, but I did not want to invest all the required time.

Thank you. I have heard of successful no prednisone results but they were based on days after transplant. Curious to know what they offered to you.

I received my transplant in August, 2005 and was offered the option of switching to a zero prednisone protocol in October, 2005. It was mentioned in casual conversation and left up to me.

Hi catwoman, just curious at what point after your transplant that the 5mg dose started? I am just over four months post kidney transplant (deceased donor) and docs want me on 7.5 mg.
