Just wondering what other people's conditions were when they went onto dialysis. My GFR is 8 and creatinine is 604. I feel great apart from cramps and some tiredness, but I thought I would have started dialysis with those stats.

There is no specific numbers my egfr is 7 and generally I'm ok except the odd days of sickness and feeling very tired. It's important for the doctors to look at you and not just figures. Some start at egfr 15 and others 5. I'm hoping I can keep going. I was told 22months ago I needed it, had my fistula 12 months ago.
Take care and hope you remain feeling well. Keep doing what your doing to stay well.

Well this is positive news for me, I am glad to hear that I can have a GFR of 6 and still feel ok. Mine GFR is sitting at 14 and my creatinine is 4.0.
Hi Paul,
Interested eGFR was at 10 when I started pd, I have not felt ill at all apart from tiredness, but I explain that away with my age!!!
Pd for just over a year, worked really well for me but I damaged the catheter carrying a heavy box and contracted an infection. Over a 9 month period peritonitis 5times, new tube fitted but still
Infection.
Tube removed go a second time in Feb, fistula formed in July, started heamo in August, again works well for me but going into the unit 3 times a week was difficult so I started home had in November and then nocturnal dialysis April, I do this every other night starting around 10.30 for 7.5 hrs. Took 2-3 weeks to get used to sleeping but I now have so much more freedom and am almost”normal” to the outside world.
I wish you well on your renal journey
Philip
Unfortunately, you are delaying the inevitable. I was in the same situation. I felt fine too. The doctor said that if I waited too long, my kidneys could get too bad too quickly and it would be really hard to recover from that. Meaning kidney failure and emergency dialysis. They said I could get very sick very fast. I chose Pd dialysis and felt much better. I was able to work and keep life normal. Once you go on dialysis you are a higher priority on the transplant list. Do it for your health. By delaying you are risking kidney failure which causes other organs to fail too, which is as death sentence. Best of luck to you on what ever course you decide to take. I didnt wany yo do it either, but im glad I did.
