(More) proof that Ginkgo works...

I missed my dose yesterday. I'm normally on the ball there, but not that day. So my basic grade tinnitus is roaring away. It's there most of the time anyway but lower with Ginkgo. Often it goes away for a bit. Thanks, Ginkgo.

Dosage is 90mg, taken over a day. 3 x 30mg. Then nothing for a full 2 days after. The tablet is crushed, and weighed out on a small electronic weighing machine that measures down to 1mg. To get 30mg of Ginkgo, you need 62mg of bits, which includes the binding agent. Furthermore, the bits are ground by teeth and absorbed in the mouth. Just as chewing the actual leaf. In other words, keeping the stuff well clear of stomach acid.

The 2 day gap looks to be essential. It could be the case that Ginkgo needs to leave the system before the next dose can be recognised. This observation backed up by my once taking the 90mg dose daily. Nothing happened from that. No relief at all.

There it is. If it can happen for me...well, you know the rest...

Can't get the edit to function, so I'll put this footnote here...

I've seen some whopping doses of Ginkgo suggested. As much as 750mg a day if I remember. I've achieved relief on a low dose. So low that Holland and Barrett discontinued the 30mg tablets. Hence the need to crush higher dose tablets. It makes sense to me. If I'm right about Ginkgo needing to leave the brain before the next dose is recognised then the less in you the quicker that's going to happen.

Thank you. My tinnitus doesn't really bother me that much, but obviously anything that helps lower the volume is worth a shot

Hi Ray,

I've seen a few of your posts about Ginkgo, but it's something I'm yet to try. Where do you buy it from and do you know what caused your tinnitus?

Thanks

Holland & Barrett. They have a high street presence. They do own brand and others. Extreme stress from acute grief caused mine. 3 significant bereavements, all unexpected, including my father, in just 7 weeks. That's all it took.

All the so called experts say that ginkgo biloba makes no difference at all, but I’m prepared to try out your idea here Ray? You never know you may have just unearthed / stumbled upon something that experts should be looking into! I will acquire the said herbal pill and report back in due course with my findings.

Do come back if you get relief, Mac!

I'm mystified why Ginkgo has been cast aside. Lazy research is the only possible reason. It could be that in pill form it looks like sophisticated Western medicine. So 3 a day will sort you. And if it doesn't, ignore it and go elsewhere...

The following might be of encouragement to you. On a couple of occasions I've awoken and the tinnitus wasn't there. Delighted as I was with this, I was also annoyed that (part of) the effect had taken place while I was unconscious. So now, dose day is first, between 4pm and 6pm. Second, around bedtime. Third, in the early hours. The last not to everyone's ease but my 65 year old bladder means it's no problem at all for me...

Yep and I’ll try that method of approach too! 👍🏼 Thanks for the advice.

so are you saying have approx 90mg a day but take it across three diff times within the day? So 3 lots of 30mg?

Not what you're looking for?
