Hi guysHad sinus surgery 12 months ago and a few months later developed tinnitus in my left ear. Coincidence or related I don't know but either way I don't know what my next step should be. Spoke to my GP who basically said to live with it which was very disappointing.
I would be thankful for any advice.

Since I’ve been on this forum I’ve seen many posts where the GP has said similar to yours. What GPs are supposed to do is outlined in NICE guidance (National Institute for Clinical Evidence) which you can look up yourself on their website (input tinnitus to search box at top).
good source of information for you is on the website of Tinnitus UK. There are many things you can do to help yourself, though no “cures” as such. There are plenty of shysters about eager to take your money so don’t believe any of them unless advised by Tinnitus UK or here.
A utube video which has been mentioned quite a bit here and which explains Tinnitus very well is also worth looking at. Scroll down on this page until you see the post beginning” UTube Vid How to get rid of Tinnitus.”
HelloThat is exactly what was said to me as well. My first response was pardon me but f*ck off! Then as happyrosie responded tried many shyster offered "cures" In the end I have learned the solution lies within . Your mind is a powerful thing . There may be no cure for this but there are definitely situations which make the ringing worse . Keep coming back to this forum . Here you will find support and many many people who have been where you are now . Im not going to lie the beginning was rough for me . It has been just over a year now and I have had to change everything . From where I lived ( the city) to my job as a hospital nurse . I had to make these changes in order to survive . You will too. Headphones were my first line of defense along with a whole host of medications that caused more side effects than I was willing to deal with . Some worse than others .I now use hearing aides the one in my right hear plays a masking sound which sounds like a semi truck tire with a giant hole in it ! An audiologist programmed it to emit a hissing sound at the frequency matching my ringing . I also take ginko which you can search on this foum . The 4 day regime is discussed and it does help as well .
While your GP essentially told you an important truth, he should have also given you some clues on how best to do that. I think they see so much tinnitus, because it's very common, they know there's no cure and they blow you off. I was pretty much told the same here by every hearing specialist I've seen (I've seen a lot as I have Ménière's disease and also moved around a lot for work until I retired, including three different continents). Yes, you will probably habituate to a greater or lesser extent, you will find what works for you, but don't get tempted to go the route of trying everything in the hopes it will work; it won't. Even the most promising new therapies (Lenire) are having very mixed results. Good luck.
