Mirtazapine my doc gave me to cope with T and to help me sleep.
I think they’re making my T louder and not really helping with anxiety with T
Has anyone found the same ?

I took them for about 9 months for sleep until they stopped working . Didn’t affect my tinnitus at all. Be carful as they can cause rebound insomnia and weight gain. All the best.
Did you find it easy coming off them? Did you do it gradually or just drop them?
I am taking them for the past 6 month with no effect to my tinnitus
I've been on Miterzapine for years. Never noticed any difference with my T 🤷♀️
hi I too have been on mirtazapine for years and increased dosage in Dec due to tinnitus onset. I had not notice any increase in tone/loudness. In fact my tinnitus has reduced greatly and therefore now reducing dosage. Hang in there. We are all different but when I think of how hellish the tinnitus was 8 months ago It has significantly improved.
You know that tinnitus is a side effect?
In my case likely due to noise exposure in particular from a chemical brothers concert in November. However it also coincided with a viral infection and chronic ear wax problems. Hard to know what or if all contributed to the tinnitus onset. Previous damage was obviously there as hearing test showed some noise related hearing loss. But certainly the concert was not helpful. I was foolish to think would always get away with it I suppose. You realise now how much your ears get punished day to day.
I’ve been taking mirtazapine for almost a year and it helps me sleep. No increase in the tinnitus, but definitely caused weight gain for me.
My concern will be coming off them whether you can sleep without them. I hope the tinnitus settles on them.
What mg do u take ?
Only 15mg daily now. Was 30mg while coping with the tinnitus onset. For me relaxation, stretching, keeping excess ear wax at bay and reducing Hyperacusis by not over protecting ears gradually has helped significantly. Still have spikes for no apparent reason but seems to be relatively stable. Also notice if not drinking sufficiently can tend to affect ears but for this I am not 100% certain.
Hi, I’ve been taking Mirtizipine for abt 2 yrs now, prescribed by dr for help with coping & sleep. I’m now on 15mg & am just hoping to withdraw completely in the next few weeks, though I keep coming up with every excuse to keep taking them as I do get good sleep with them , probably too much ! Haven’t noticed any increase with with T- tbh from taking them but I don’t think I could have coped without them in the early days.
made my T worse immediately so had to stop. Anything that increases my serotonin makes it worse which is a pain
On zopiclone instead but tapering off - that doesn’t make it worse
Hi, I’ve been taking Mirtazapine for around 10 months. I was initially prescribed Sertraline when my tinnitus first started as I was extremely stressed by it and not sleeping. Sertraline definitely made the tinnitus worse so I was swapped to Mirtazapine. Didn’t make the tinnitus worse and is still working for sleep. A couple of months ago I thought I was ok to stop and tapered off over a few weeks. However, after being off it for six days I wasn’t sleeping and my anxiety was through the roof! Been back on 15mg a day since. I am a bit worried about coming off it now. Does also cause some weight gain. I think that’s mainly because it increases appetite, so once you’re aware of that (I wasn’t at the start because I didn’t read the info!) you can more or less deal with it. I suppose there is always a trade off. Can take a while to work for some people too. All the best.
yes years ago the Dr prescribed this for me and my T went off the wall and my anxiety due to the tinnitus!
Then I read a post that this person found relief ( not total silence ) but levels where he could live a normal life. With my tinnitus at the time I became withdrawn from all family get togethers, then I asked my doctor
If he could prescribe what I read ::
It was Aprazolam Extended Release
1 mg tablet once a day, not the immediately
Release but Extended Release !
And I been on it for about 5 years I know People say it’s a drug that has dependency but I know there is no cure out there for tinnitus. But this has helped my tinnitus and anxiety. Tinnitus for me went from a 10
To a 3 still there but I can enjoy my family and not isolate myself.
Hope this helps 😊 I just want to share about tinnitus and maybe we can all feel the silence again one day 🙏🏻
I was taking mirtazapine for 3 years, it helped me sleep and cope with Tinnitus, I stopped it in November of last year, my T increased in intensity and I have only been able to sleep for a maximum of 5 hours
unfortunately I find all sleeping pills are like that.
I have been taking Mirtazapine 30mg for 7 Months, my Tinnitus is the same noise level, it did help me sleep better at first, but, I think I got used to them slightly & then I wake up and was only getting a few hours sleep, as in light sleep the Tinnitus was too loud for me to rest or sleep again. I agree with others, they make you feel hungry often, I haven't really put any weight on, as I try and stay active & avoid snacks. Mirtazapine also didn't seem to clam the brain down either. I am also now taking Clonazepam 0.5mg a day at night. This seems to make me get a proper sleep & a deeper sleep, sometimes I am knocked out for 12hrs at first, but, as I am used to them a few weeks in, I am getting a proper 8 hrs of deep sleep then waking up. I think it calms the brain down a little bit, but, maybe, that is because I am less drowsy with more energy & when getting tired & ready for bed the tablets seem to kick in and make it easier to sleep, as soon as you lay down. The tinnitus is the same noise & level on Clonazepam. I am tempted to boost the Clonazepam to 1-2mg a day & see if that makes a difference to the tinnitus and noise level, but, I don't want to be knocked out so much, I am too drowsy to do anything or pass out, it can be a powerful drug for some people. Clonazepam is recommended a lot & works for a lot of people, so you could switch to that and see, as drugs work different for many people. I did also try Duloxetine & that made my brain go crazy, my tinnitus was screaming, my heart rate was off the scale & I was having hallucinations and weird brain feelings & thoughts & sensations. You should come off the Mirtazapine & see what happens and then restart again, also check blood pressure, as if that is too high, it can also send it screaming and some tablets increase the blood pressure too much & cause it also.
