When you say "at it's worst" when you have the TV on what do you mean?
I find that certain frequency sounds exacerbate my T horribly - generally high frequencies and high pitched noises and grating noises. Becoming worse as well but it just means I have to be careful about the sound invironment around me. I haven't taken to walking around with ear defenders just yet but I'm heading that way I think.
I appreciate your answer. It is the frequencies from the voices on the TV that make the T go from acceptable to totally unbearable. Unable to hear TV over the T
I have tried changing my distance from TV etc.
I have slight hearing loss and am wondering would hearing aids be able to address this problem. ??
That's unfortunate Kayte, there must be a frequency conflict between your T and the TV frequencies of voices. If you love your TV and want to keep watching have a think about investing in some earphones or airpods so you can see if listening that way is more comfortable for you.
Are you totally sure Kayte? Most TV's have an "Audio Out" - same size as old iphone headphone input OR a pair of larger Red and White RCA "Stereo Out"s. Hard to find but lurking there amongst all the other In/Out sockets on the back.
I think this is generally referred to as a reactive tinnitus, and my T is like this much of the time. I find that the TV can aggravate my T but it isn't only the TV. Do you think it's specifically the sound quality of your TV that provokes your T? Many TVs these days have appalling sound quality, in which case you may want to try a sound bar. You could first experiment by putting a portable radio alongside your TV to check whether the voices from the radio have the same effect.
many years back when i first started to suffer with Tinnitus I also had Hyperacusis, which as you may know is a sensitivity to sound. Certain sounds or volumes of sound would make my tinnitus spike, also referred to above as reactive tinnitus.
One of the distinctions of this was the poor quality of speakers. If i used good headphones or good speakers I was not affected as much but bad speakers seemed to make my tinnitus worse for sure.
If it is hyperacusis then hopefully like many this will ease over time as your audio system gets less sensitive. This can be helped with sound therapy.
