I don’t know what your link between tinnitus and painkillers might be. on this forum we surely cannot advice you on the type of painkillers you might take. Personally I take ibuprofen one day and co-codamol on the next, avoiding the worst of the side effects of the co-codamol. Paracetamol does not do anything for me at all. Perhaps a discussion with your pharmacy might help?

I replied to you a couple of minutes ago and then looked at your earlier post on the same subject. At that time you did get a response from a few people but I doubt if this helped you.

Have you been to the website of Tinnitus UK?

Also, John 7777 posted a couple of days ago - do read his post about how he’s overcome the effect that T had on him.

Thanks I understand thank you for responding .

Its impossible to get dr app but will speak with pharmacy tomorrow.

I am not suggesting anyone advises on painkillers, only which one would have the least side effects to T.

Thanks Rosie

There is no significant benefit to tinnitus distress from taking painkillers - any effect would be a placebo-like one at best. Honestly, having a soporific drink like Ovaltine or cocoa might be a better fit at bedtime.

I will try Ovaltine , thank you

I've recently taken ibuprofen for an episode of back pain, and my tinnitus instantly spiked...! This may not be the same for you though?

Hi Parrcj Sorry you're having a tough time with pain and T . It's not easy I know. Start with paracetemol. I'm taking them for toothache at the moment and there's no effect on my T at all. All the best today. Sometimes the pharmacist knows more than the doctor!

As Happyrosie says we are all different.

Why painkillers?

The anxiety of T and trying to find something to to stop it go hand-in-hand. I take Sertraline (prescribed by my doctor) which helps with the anxiety. From discussions on here, what works for some doesn't work for others.

I wear a headband with speakers at night.

If your Tinnitus is a result of hearing loss, try hearing aids. Increased volume helps to mask it. After years of trying, I've only recently found hearing aids help.

I'm afraid to say acceptance is key - or at least strategies that help you towards "acceptance".

All the best.

Hi Dave , Do you sleep with your hearing aid in ? . I only use one for my right ear and find its helps reduce the T. Is this normal practise for people.

I take my hearing aids out at night. I wear a headband speaker and play meditation music. I still hear my tinnitus, but I just need to background noise for something to focus on.

Hearing aids are good for tinnitus and if you can get them programmed with masking to a range that reduced your tinnitus by replacing it with another sound.

Sometimes I just prefer ear buds and listening to music.

Ive started wearing them almost all the time. This is good practice to allow your brain to adjust.

Okay thank you, the HA I have have no option to mask sounds just a contol level . I will enquire if I can be offered the noise masking aids.

Mine are NHS hearing aids. They will create the masking based on you hearing range. It's does work well. Although, depending on your T, I think masking is loose term.

All the best.

Hi! I don’t think that paracetamol or ibuprofen can help you.

Better:

- check your blood pressure

- stop drinking coffee or alcohol for a few days

- less salt in your food

- do some exercises for your spine problems

- a few relaxation exercises or a few walks every day

- if you can go to a swimming pool

At this very moment I’m having a spike. Last night I didn’t sleep on the pillow and it was a little better in the morning.🥰

Good health!

for me anxiety spikes my tinnitus. I’d recommend listening to dr Claire weeks on YouTube. It’s the best advice you’ll get about anxiety and stress. It’s also applicable to tinnitus. It’s about acceptance, not fighting it and then the brain realises it’s not a threat and calms it down. Also I take l-theanine and magnesium glycinate which helps. All the best.

Can you suggest which l-theanine and magnesium you use

Karlos99 profile image
Karlos99 in reply toParrcj

The magnesium glycinate is by a company called new leaf bought from Amazon. The l-theanine was bought from a company called supplemented.

Thank you all, I feel I have accepted T and most of the time I can manage to mask it, actually some days I am over the moon as I think I have at last managed it to a level I have to accept.

When as over the last three days it has spiked to unbeable level I come crashing down. I am so greatful for your support and advice. I did try Stephen Fry John777 recomended but for some reason my ears do not like earbuds.

I will purchase l-theanine and magnesium glycinate thank you Karlos.

I guess like most of you years of fighting has done its damage, and anxiety has set in ,never thought this would be me anxiety !! I would tell the Dr I have nothing to be anxious about !!. Stress I do not have this either I have a wonderful life........so I guess I do suffer from Anxiety and Stress as bedtime is my enemy.

Thank you Ana , Benadryl help me sleep last night, did not get rid of T but slept 9hrs.

Dave my hearing aids are so helpful in the day , I feel I have accepted the T , maybe I need some help now as I feel I have tried all the above apart from supplements. Painkillers as the screaming is so painful ?

I appreciate I can talk to you all via chat , I dont really have anyone who will understand the nightmare.

Sorry to go on and maybe I do not make sense but good to chat and recieve your suggestions. Rather down with this at the moment , I will come back up when the T gives me a break which it will do fingers crossed

Thank you all

Just take it a day at a time mate. Get plenty of exercise and try and get that anxiety under control. It’s just your brains response to a perceived threat. Try and remain as calm as you can and just go with it as opposed to trying to get rid of it. Once your brain realises there’s no threat it will get easier. It takes time but you’ll get there. All the best.

Good day to you, Parrcj

My experience with milder, variable T is that when it is more profound, I can get occasional relief from paracetamol. After 2 hours of taking them. Nothing from Ibuprofen.

My online research on paracetamol for T seems to put me in the minority there. Plenty of complaint around that paracetamol aggravates the condition.

I do not want to take paracetamol for T so rarely do. If it happens, it will be around 8pm and knowing that T as it is at the time will prevent sleep. I will be hoping it means I'll be asleep before midnight.

Thank you Ray I will keep that in mind. When the T is at its fullest it is very painful headache also .

Sleep is so important i am glad you have found paracetamol helps i am the same i rarely take tablets.

Best wishes

Hi Parrcj I have tried both and have felt melatonin helps. I am on amitriptyline at the moment as I’ve had a lot of intervention with my ear. Only one thank goodness. 7 years ago I had a grommet put in my ear to help unblock it. I then developed really bad tinnitus . I’ve had the grommet put in and out of my ear twice, a bone removed from my ear and I’m onto my second cochlear implant , I’ve had 7 operations so I get pain as well. I hope this makes you feel a bit better …. I try and keep positive but some days are really tough. Maybe you could see your Dr to see if you could try melatonin. Good luck with it all. One day there will be a cure 🌞🌞🌞🌞
